November 4, 2022 Lunch - Charcuterie Sandwiches. Dinner - cocktails and Hors d’ Oeuvres at Santa Fe Auction

Today was a day of charcuterie. I ate three open faced sandwiches of charcuterie (salami, cured ham, and prosciutto) for lunch at 12:30 on toasted slices of baguette garnished with slices of Jarlsberg cheese with a cup of chai. We bought both the cheese and the charcuterie (Buttera??) at Costco.

I also ordered the kindle version of Amos Towles’ Rules of Civility from Amazon that is the book club’s November selection.  It is quite a switch of orientation from Stone Age Southwestern France of 25,000 years ago to 1938 Depression Era New York City.

At 2:00 we drove to Santa Fe and first went to the Adobe Gallery at 221 Canyon Rd.  You must park across the street at 225 and walk across Canyon Rd.

The Adobe Gallery specializes in American Indian art and crafts.  They had four Helen Hardin paintings or prints.  We also saw about e dozen Harrison Begay paintings and lots of other artists” work plus dozens of lovely oils pots and ceramics.  They were featuring a wall full of Helen Cordero story teller ceramics. We were very impressed. The two young attendants were very knowledgeable and fun to talk to and even were interested to see some of our art collection.

At 4:00 we drove to the auction and inspected the offerings.  Suzette did not like the Alma Curtis, but found an Australian fire Opal ring she liked that fit her finger that was owned by Georgia Loloma.  She was thrilled that she could wear the ring of a famous jeweler and I was thrilled that I had found a Christmas gift for Suzette that she would love.

At 5:00 we were the first to enter the side hall where the cocktails and long table of snacks were served. There was a bit of everything. The fruits included raspberries, pineapple, grapes, and passion fruit.  There were three types of salami, and three or four types of cheese.  I ate Stilton with slices of date and walnut bread, and Manchego and cheddar slices with the salami and slices of carrot and Persian cucumber.  There were also three or four types of lovely crackers that tasted great spread with the smoked salmon or plaice spread or goat cheese or cream cheese mixed with fig jam. I had a great time and took two plates full of snacks.

The bar was pouring interesting wines.  I drank a cup of Pink Prosecco and a cup of white Vino Verde.  Suzette drank Sauvignon Blanc.

At 6:00 we left and Suzette drove home while I rested.

We were both tired when we arrived home and went to bed about 8:15. It is hard work looking at lots of art, but very satisfying and exciting.

I read a bit and went to bed when Suzette did but awakened at 10:30 and wrote this blog.

Bon Appetit
