August 16, 2022 Lunch - Fresh Dungeness Crab, Steamed Asparagus, homegrown tomato, Persian Cucumber , and ha d boiled egg. Dinner - Peach and blueberry Cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

This was a 2 1/2 meal day with a major health discovery.

I made Oatmeal with a diced apple from our tree, some organic cane sugar, and fresh blueberries around 10:30.

At 1:00 I drove to my appointment with a rehab specialist.  He looked at the x-rays taken on Friday and confirmed what my primary care doctor concluded from her review of the x-rays, that I had severe degenerative arthritis and the only thing available to me to resolve the condition was a hip replacement.  I was thrilled that I had gotten a proper diagnosis and a clear indication that surgery was the only solution.

I returned home at 2:15 and Suzette and I decided to eat the fresh Dungeness crab I bought at Costco yesterday for $14.99/lb.

I sliced a Persian cucumber and made my favorite crab sauce (minced shallot covered/cooked in lemon juice for ten minutes plus Mayo, and catsup.  Suzette hard boiled 6 eggs, steamed 7 or 8 thick asparagus, and diced a tomato from our garden.

Suzette also put the crab onto a rack with ice.

I opened one of our favorite new wines a Claire Patelin Sauvignon Blanc from Cotes du Gascogne, France (Trader Joe’s $5.99) and worth every penny of it.  Vinvino gives it a 3.9 rating.

We took everything out to the gazebo and enjoyed a leisurely meal in the garden.

The crab product is of an exceptional quality. The crab has been cooked and cleaned, so only the lump meat and claws remain. There were 2 Dungeness crabs, four sections.  We ate one section each and after the meal I picked the meat from the other two clusters, about 1 1/2 - 2 cups. We also saved the shells so we can make crab stock. The crab is fresh and succulent. It is cooked at sea with all its salty juices flowing out of it just as if you were eating it sitting by the dock where the fishermen unload their catch.

We ate at 3:30 so we were not very hungry for another meal but we were both hungry for some of the peach and blueberry cobbler Suzette made two nights ago with fresh peaches from our garden.

We each put a scoop of ice cream on our re-heated cobbler.  It was delicious.

I also pitted the remaining lb. of bing cherries and filled our open bottle of maraschino cherries and 1/2 of another 16 oz. bottle.  Suzette fetched a bottle of the maraschino liquid stored in the garage and she covered the cherries in the filled open bottle and I covered the second bottle with the liquid.

So we have replenished our maraschino cherries.

I am enjoying reading the Valley of Horses, the Second book in the Clan of the Cave Bear series by Auel.  After dessert at 7:30 I lay down to blog and read.

Bon Appetit
