August 12, 2022 Brunch - Toasted Bagel with Cream Cheese, lax, red onion, and capers. Dinner - Kibbeh, tzatziki, tomato, and pita

Today was another 2 meal day. It was even two light meals and a minimal snack.

I awakened at 8:00 again. I showered and dressed and at 10:30 made breakfast which was two slices of Toasted Bagel with Cream Cheese, lax, red onion, and capers and a cup of hot tea.

I then pruned the Don Juan rose bush on the patio.

I checked my mail and found that my doctor had approved X Rays and the specialist I requested for platelet therapy.  Suzette came home around 1:00 because she was not feeling well and went to bed.

I ordered the B.J.O. Nordfeldt Catalog from the Milwaukee Museum.

I got very excited because the market surged today and the Warrant and receipt for the search of Mar a Lago was released around 1:30.

I watched the legal reaction and finally tore myself away from the TV at 3:00 and drove to Kaseman Hospital to have my hips and knees x-rayed at 3:00. Then I drove around the corner to Istanbul Market in its new larger location at 1410 Wyoming.

It had a very impressive inventory of goods, such as thirty brands and varieties if Turkish Delight.  I wandered and bought 1/2 gallon of mint yogurt drink, a 16 oz. Bottle of taramasalata (Greek caviar spread), four types of olives, dried Moroccan black olives, cracked green olives with thyme, Colossal Black Olives, Pitted Kalamata Olives, a large can of dolmas, a can of hummus, two cans of baba Ghanoush, a package of fresh pitas, two kibbeh, and a plastic container of dates. The owner boxed all the items in a box and carried them to the car for me, which I could not have done since the box probably weighed 30 lbs.

Here is a description of kibbeh.Kibbeh is a family of dishes based on spiced ground meat, onions, and grain, popular in Middle Eastern cuisine. In Levantine cuisine, kibbeh is usually made by pounding bulgur wheat together with meat into a fine paste and forming it into balls with toasted pine nuts and spices. Wikipedia

I then drove to Smith’s to buy some milk and ibuprofen for Suzette.  I also bought a cucumber, two containers of yogurt, a gallon of milk, a discounted soft cheese wrapped in spruce bark, a bottle of root beer, chocolate fudge sandwich cookies, blueberries and of course the ibuprofen. Suzette called several times to ask me where I was and did I get the ibuprofen.

Finally I arrived home around 5:30 and found Suzette waiting for me in the driveway and I felt like i was some sort of drug dealer. Suzette helped me unload the car and she took several ibuprofen and returned to bed.

I made Tzatziki.  I peeled, seeded, and cubed 2/3 of a cucumber and sprinkled salt on the cubes. I squeezed the juice of 1/3 lemon, pressed a clove of fresh garlic from our garden, and added a dash of the good California olive oil and stirred the ingredients and refrigerated the tzatziki.

A few minutes after I put the tzatziki in the fridge Suzette came to the kitchen. It was 6:30 and I had only eaten a blueberry Newton at 3:15’ so I was hungry.  Suzette was happy to eat also.  I diced 2/3 of a ripe tomato and Suzette warmed the kibbehs in the microwave and put one on each plate.  I then put diced tomato and tzatziki on each plate and Suzette added a dollop of taramasalata to each plate.  I toasted a pita and Suzette took a small piece leaving me a large pocket that I filled by spreading one side with taramasalata and filled the pocket with tzatziki and diced tomato.  We both drank water.

After dinner Suzette ate a small bowl of clafoutis with several cherries.

Later I ate a few bites of clafoutis also.

I loved watching the news with all the lawyers and former national directors saying how terrible Trump’s holding national top secret documents was and the analysis of the three or four crimes that possibly implicated depending on the ultimate nature of the documents.

Looks like Trump got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. If you or I had stored the documents he appears to have taken to Mar a Lago, we would probably be tried under the Espionage Act and be sent to federal prison.

I finally went to bed at 10:00 but as I set the alarm a small skunk trotted along the sidewalk connecting the garage to house and back yard.

Bon Appetit
