July 7, 2024 Breakfast - Flour Tortilla Egg sandwiches. Lunch - Fusion tacos at the Wine Festival at Las Golandrinas. Dinner - Tuna Melt Open faced Sandwiches

Today sounds boring because we ate only sandwiches, but it was a lovely day of activity and friendship.

We spent the night in Linda and T.R.’s guest bedroom and Linda made us lovely scrambled eggs wrapped like tacos in 1/2 of a flour tortilla she sautéed in butter to make soft and delicious.

They then took a walk with Gypsy and we walked around their circular drive twice and their yard, about 650 steps.

When they returned we sat at the table under the gazebo on the patio in their back yard and traded yarns for several hours until 11:45 when we drove to Las Golondrinas to attend the annual wine Festival sponsored by the NM Vine and Wine Society.  There were about thirty vineyards represented. Again we were impressed by the progress in winemaking in New Mexico.  The most interesting was Gruet because I thought their wines would suffer when Laurent left but they have not.  The 100th Anniversary of Zozobra was a wonderful new sparkling wine that was 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir.

After we had visited about 10 wineries we became hungry and decided to try the Fusion Taco stand. We ordered four tacos for $14.00 and bought a water for $2.00.  We got tastes of wine at a winery booth on out way to the music tent, where we sat and ate the traditional Mexican birria beef and pork carnitas tacos with red wine and water.

Then after lunch we resumed our tasting and shopping. At one of the booths we bought an Allepo Chile spice blend for $6.00 and when we finally arrived at the Luna Rossa winery booth, we tasted a Vermintino white that I liked, so I bought their last bottle for $20.00. On our way out we stopped at a booth selling seeds and bought a bag of black garbanzo seeds for $5.00.

Suzette let me drive her new car home and we arrived at 3:30.

I lay down to nap for an hour and she watched her home remodeling shows on HGTV.  I lay in bed until 5:30 and watched the highlights of Stage 9 of the Tour de France and the replay of the Euro match between France and Portugal that France won on penalty kicks after 120 minutes of scoreless play.

I then returned to the TV room and we watched the Copa America Quarterfinal match between Uruguay and Brazil that Uruguay won on penalty kicks after 90 minutes of scoreless regulation play.

We discussed dinner and Suzette came up with the idea to make tuna melt  sandwiches. She spread Mayo on slices of French baguette that she buttered on the other side and then spread canned tuna mixed with shives on the Mayo and went to the garden and picked by cherry tomatoes and added those to the tuna and garnished the tuna mix with slices of Manchego cheese and then sautéed the sandwiches butter side down and covered the skillet to melt the cheese until the sandwiches were warm and the cheese melted.

We drank glasses of open white wines. Suzette drank the Kirkland New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and I drank the 2021 Domaine du Toujas from Cotes du Gascogne (Total Wine $11.99).

Later I ate a slice of Key Lime pie and after Suzette went to bed at 9:30 I watched Hallelujah, the Leonard Cohen documentary again. I love that movie. I recommend it to everyone and note that it will only be available on Netflix until July 25, 2024.

Bon Appetit
