July 6, 2028 Breakfast - Green Chili and black bean sausage and egg stuffed burritos Dinner - Cocktail Party at Linda and T.R.’s
We woke up and I ate some dried apricots from our garden and a pain au chocolates and then went to the garden to help Suzette. I helped her pull weeds and then I harvested the garlic that we put on a screen to dry.
At 9:00 we watched the Sprint finish of Stage 8 of the Tour de France that a black Eritrean named Girmay won that put him a commanding lead in the sprinter green jersey competition. I then showered and dressed and a few minutes after 10:00 joined Willy and his friend who works at the Court of Appeals. We each dialed a coffee of our choice and then watched England beat Turkey on penalty shots after 120 minutes.
During the game Suzette cooked black beans with green chili in one skillet and eggs and sausage in another skillet and then combined a spoonful of each on a warmed flour tortilla t make four burritos that we ate with our coffee as we watched the match.
Willy and his friend left after the England v. Switzerland match, but the second Euro match of the day between Turkey and the Netherlands began a few minutes after 1:00.
We watched it and split a beer to wash down the burrito, which I guess was our lunch.
We left for Santa Fe at 3:30 after the second match that Netherlands won in the last few minutes of regulation time 2 to 1.
Suzette drove her new BMW 335i which is a luxury sports car with a retractable roof that Debbie sold her. It was a very smooth driving automobile.
We arrived at Linda and T.R.’s at 4:45 and a few guests had arrived even though the cocktail party did not officially start until 5:00. Not enough good things can be said for their organization and execution of the party. Linda had prepared about six different interesting appetizers that were arranged on trays on tables on their patio next the the bar. They had mixed pitchers of Mai Tais before hand and T.R. Served as bar tender for the first hour or until he had poured out all the Mai Tais. Many people brought wine and after a while he began to mingle and pick up empty plates and bottles. Linda said she talked to almost everyone since her work had been finished before the party began.
The appetizers included bacon wrapped dates stuffed with chorizo, skewers of ham and olives, skewers of cherry tomatoes and small mozzarella balls, squares of a artichoke quiche, rounds of phyllo pastry and sun dried tomatoes and toasted slices of baguette spread with cream cheese and garnished with Gravad lax. Obviously a lot of menu planning and hard work went into the elegant array of delicious appetizers.
I drank a Shiner Bock beer and then several glasses of a lovely French Anjou rose that tasted like most, a blend of Chenin Blanc with a little Cabernet Franc.
I met several people I had not met and several we had met before. There are a lot of interesting people who have had successful careers and who either because their careers allow to live anywhere can choose to live in Santa Fe or have retired to Santa Fe. Many of the people we met live in the area of upper Pecos Trail where T.R. and Linda live.
We became rather goofy friends with Jeff and Deb, who are foodies like us who we invited to visit us to explore some of the Oriental restaurants in Albuquerque.
After everyone left we sat and talked with T.R. and Linda in the kitchen and then went to bed around 10:30, Suzette to sleep and I to blog until 1:00 to catch up the last two days entries.
Bon Appetit
