July 3, 2024 Brunch - Lamb and fig Omelet, Snack - Apricot and Blueberry Cobbler with Whipped cream, Dinner - Aceq Restaurant
We woke up and watched Morning Joe until 8:00 during which I ate a pain au chocolate. We then walked up the road to the next house where Suzette saw a coyote crossing the road. We turned around and walked home, a distance of only about 600 steps.
Suzette then made a lovely breakfast. She sliced the PPI grilled lamb from last night and sliced several figs she harvested from our bush and sautéed those and then added whisked eggs and goat cheese. We ate at the table on the south side of the house beside the front door.
We then drove to town and parked behind Robert Parsons Gallery. Rigoberto was in the Gallery, so we had a pleasant discussion and Suzette looked a lovely Ida McAfee painting. We then went looking for a drink and walked to Lambert’s and Taos Inn and both were closed, but we were given cold bottles of water at Taos Inn. We walked back to Robert Parsons and drove to Smith’s where we bought a wedge of goat Gouda that was highly recommended, a wedge of cheddar marked down, a bottle of olive oil, and a small container of heavy cream.
We then drove to the Wright Contemporary Gallery that was featuring a Florence Pierce exhibit. Apparently it was representing her estate.
Most of the pieces were out of our price range, except several small sandstone rocks Pierce had carved when she was experimenting with electric chisels in the 50’s. We both loved it and Suzette bought it for her collection of female artists of New Mexico.
We then drove home and napped until Willy arrived at 4:18. Willy had hiked Gallegos Canyon near Sopapillas , so he took a shower and at 5:00 we left for Aceq Restaurant in Arroyo Seco.
When we arrived we said hello to Tom and Katie and their two friends who had driven from Albuquerque to eat at Aceq and arrived at the same time. We were soon seated and each of us picked a dish we wanted. Suzette selected the Chef’ protein that was a platter with a large chunk of Waghu beef, a soft-shell crab, roasted butternut squash on a bed of rice mixed with Edamame. All of it was good but the rice and edamame was a very nice combination.
Wily ordered the brown rice curry bowl with chicken. It was a spicy but wonderfully flavorful Thai curry.
I ordered the Plaice Yaki Tori Udon bowl. It was topped with fresh corn kernels and alfalfa sprouts on a slab of fried battered Plaice fillet resting on a combination of baby bok Choy, udon noodles, slivered green beans, red and green bell pepper slices, in a soy and mirin sauce. The consistency was a thick sauce full of noodles and vegetables.
Aceq publicizes itself as a locally sourced American restaurant but Willy’s assessment that it is an American Oriental fusion restaurant seemed more accurate.
After dinner we drove back to the house and watched the sun set.
Then Willy and I watched a repeat showing of France’s defeat of Belgium in their Euro match and we went to bed.
Two other things occurred of significance today. I walked 3500 steps and the market gave me a gift. Nvidia finally broke out of its malaise of a downward trading range from 135 to 122 over the last week and notched another super day rising $5.61 and Apple continued its upward momentum notching a $1.28 gain. These two stock gains alone represented a gain for my portfolio of 1.6%, a very handsome reward for my birthday, and a reminder that everything in finance can be seen in a Risk v. Reward relation.
I had a wonderful birthday and the first one in several years without pain in my hips.
Bon Appetit
