October 18, 2023  Breakfast - Gouda cheese quesadilla Lunch - Mariscos Playa, Santa Fe,  Dinner - PPI Pork Stroganoff with Pasta and Pork with Asparagus

Today was a really fun day, although I was away from the office during an important development, which I hope will go okay.

We woke up and showered and dressed and we fixed a Quesadilla by toasting two large flour tortillas and filling the inside with slices of Gouda Cheese and toasting both outsides to melt the cheese.

We spread bacon, maple syrup, and onion jam on the quesadilla slices.

We then drove to Santa Fe to the new Contemporary Museum at the corner of Guadalupe and Montezuma.  It is the redesigned state records building.  The inaugural exhibit is titled Light and Shadow. MI was pleased to see lots of Transcendental Painting Group painters represented, such as Raymond Jonson, Emil Bisttram, Florence Pierce, and Ed Garmer.

The most interesting piece was an alcove with a row of round mirrors that reflected shadows onto an adjoining wall by an artist named Holt.

In 45 minutes we finished viewing the museum and drove to Mariscos Playa on Cordova Rd.

Soon TR and Linda joined us for lunch.

Suzette and Linda shared a platter of sautéed seafood with rive and fried potato wedges, T.R. ordered enchiladas and I ordered a large seafood coctel with shrimp, bay scallops, octopus, fish, and oysters in a tomato juice medium with chopped onions, tomatoes and cucumber.  I love this dish and order it almost every time I go to a Mexican seafood restaurant.

We ordered a number of beers to wash down the seafood.

After lunch at around 2:00 we said goodbye and drove to Owing’s Gallery to see if they would sell my Jaune Quick to See pastel. The going price for them recently hit $75,000 and I bought it around 1992 for $900. She is the subject of a big solo exhibit at the Whitney Museum in New York and has been discovered as one of the important contemporary Indian artists.

We then drove to Addison-Rowe Gallery and looked at lots of TPG art, but did not like the one we were interested in, The Wave.

We then drove to Stephen’s Consignment.  I talked to Rahim for a bit while Suzette went ahead. I then took a quick look at some art, but only saw one of any interest.

After Stephen’s we drove home and hit the 5:00 rush traffic on I-25.

When we arrived home I made two small herring sandwiches on slices of baguette that I ate with a cup of cardamom flavored tea.

We rested and looked at some TV.  I was pleased to learn that Jim Jordan’s attempt to become Speaker of the House failed for the second time.  I hope the Republicans fail to agree on a speaker and moderate Republicans join forces with democrats to pass needed legislation. This what Israel just did.

We decided to heat leftovers in the microwave for dinner. Suzette combined the Swedish meatballs with the Pork Stroganoff and pasta to make a hearty dinner. I drank hot tea and Suzette drank white vermouth.

After dinner we watched two episodes of Lupin and then the news.

It is sad to see the attempt by the MAGA wing of the Republican Party try to take control of the House when they sought to overturn the election of Joe Biden and are intent on altering our government as it historically has functioned.

Bon Appetit
