July 26, 2023 Lunch - La Guelaguetza Mexicana Restaurant. Dinner - Tabouli Pita Picket sandwiches
I it up at 6:00 and watched Ireland v. Canada. Ireland struck first in the fifth minute with one of the best goals I have ever seen. McCabe curved a corner kick into the top corner of the goal. Canada fought back to win 2 to 1, eliminating Ireland, but it was fun for a while.
I ate granola, cherries, milk, and yogurt for breakfast.
Then around 10:00 I walked to the bank and back.
Suzette works at home on Wednesdays.
When I returned around 11:00 Suzette wanted to go to lunch because she had not had breakfast.
After some research she came up with a restaurant name I had never heard before that serves food of Oaxaca. The research mentioned being nominated as a James Beard finalist, which was enough information to convince me, although the address seemed odd at 816 Old Coors SW.
We drove past it the first because it was in a nondescript old building.
But when we entered we saw a mix of Mexican and Anglo diners.
The restaurant does not serve water or chips and salsa. It is a traditional Mexican restaurant that feared three different moles; negro,
The waiter did bring a tasting plate of their three types of mole with corn tortilla wedges for tasting the mole. Suzette ordered eight tacos to try all the various meats, an asada, a chorizo, a Barbacoa, and a pork and pineapple plus a plate of four Birria tacos. I ordered mole enchiladas with brisket. Since all drinks were bottled, we ordered Medio litro Mexican Cokes.
We were amazed by the creativity in preparation of the Birria tacos, the quality and flavor of the other tacos, and the wonderfully authentic flavor of the mole.
We could only eat about 2/3 of the food and took home two of the four mole enchiladas and two of the Birria tacos with the remaining Birria broth they were served with.
The James Beard finalist award was displayed on the wall with a picture of Governor Grissom with the crew and the Journal review.
La Guelaguetza Mexicana Restaurant is a legitimately wonderful restaurant with the added benefit of serving large quantities at low prices. I loved it.
We then got the Prius washed at the new Champion semi-automatic car wash at the corner of Central and Rio Grande and drove home.
I worked on my real estate transaction and then meditated at 4:15.
After meditation we were not very hungry so we watched the news and I pitted about 1 1/2 lb. of cherries and we cored, peeled and sliced four apples that Suzette placed in the food dehydrator that Etienne gave Suzette for her 65th birthday and as I blog the apple slices and cherries are dehydrating.
I made pita pocket sandwiches filled with labni and Tabouli and drank a glass of yogurt drink and ate two dill pickles, several pickled Turnips sticks, and about a dozen cracked green olives for dinner.
We watched the USA v. Netherlands women play to a 1 - 1 tie that will almost certainly result in both of them advancing to the knock out round.
At 9:00 we went to bed.
Suzette to sleep and I to blog and read Burma Days by George Orwell.
During the match Suzette popped a bag of popcorn that we split like at a real sports event.
Discovering a new good restaurant, made today a special food day.
Bon Appetit
