July 2, 2023 Breakfast - sautéed patty sausage, eggs, and onions  Lunch - Cafe Sena with TR and Linda  Dinner - Steak salad at Hyde Park State Park

I woke up at 4:30 to see Stage 2 of the Tour de France.  When I tried to see it on Peacock, I was prompted to buy a subscription to their premium service in order to receive the Tour. Finally at 5:00 I relented and subscribed for $2.99/mo.

At 7:00 during the stage I sautéed a sausage patty, two slices of onion, and two eggs and toasted buttered and spread two slices of baguette with French cherry preserves with a mug of hot Earl Grey tea.

I watched to the end of the stage which a young Frenchman, Victor Lafay on the Cofidis team stole with a breakaway 1 kilometer from the finish line.

Then we packed clothes and prepared food for our overnight at Hyde Park State Park and left for Santa Fe at 10:50.

On the way up Suzette told me that Linda’s Birthday was today, so we stopped at Trader Joe’s on our way into Santa Fe and bought a Birthday card and flowers for her.

When we arrived at Sena Cafe in Sena Plaza T.R. and Linda were waiting at a table.  We talked and ordered drinks and then lunch. It took a long time to get our meal but we didn’t care because it was fun to talk to them.

Linda ordered mussels, TR ordered a hamburger, Suzette ordered Salad Nicoise, and I ordered Pasta Carbonara. Suzette and I drank glasses of  Roederer champagne, Linda ordered a Sicilian white wine, and TR ordered beer.

                                                Suzette’s beautiful Salad Nicoise

After lunch we walked on Palace past the Palace of Governors to the N.M. Fine Arts Museum on the Plaza which was free on this first Sunday of the month.

There were two interesting exhibits, one of glass works and the other of wooden objects.  The wooden pieces were mostly Santeros, many from Cordova and works by Pat Valdez from the 30’s and 40’s.  The glass objects were more varied, such as a blown decorative suite of pieces by Dale Chihuly to flat poured puddles of glass .  My favorite was a mosaic self portrait by Fred Hammersley.

After the museum we drove past Ten Thousand Waves up to Hyde Park Memorial State Park to the campsite we reserved. It was 4:30 by the time we got settled in, so we decided to nap and Suzette for an hour and at 6:30 we started making dinner, which was a beautiful steak salad with fresh lettuce Suzette picked from our garden this morning, pieces of the  steak Suzette grilled last night, cubes of tomato, cucumber and radish slices I chopped this morning, red onion slices I chopped at the table, and a dressing made at the table by Suzette  with Truffle oil, truffle salt, and Balsamic vinegar that was redolent with truffle flavor.

Unfortunately, just as we finished assembling dinner it started to rain so we grabbed our plates and finished eating our dinner in the camping van and drinking the bottle of 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva and talking.

When it became dark at 9:00 we went to bed but it was a restless night as I had to get up to go to the bathroom several times and my movement in the constricted in the bed space awakened Suzette.  Luckily, there is a toilet in the camper sio I did not need to go outside.

We awakened at 7:00 a.m. to a bright sunny day for my birthday.

Bon Appetit
