August 17, 2024 Snack, Snack, Lunch - BLT. Dinner - Shrimp Scampi with Spaghetti in white wine sauce with Salad, Asparagus, and Garlic bread

I awakened at 7:00 and watched the last 8 minutes of the PL match between Liverpool and Ipswich, which Liverpool won. I then ate a pain au chocolate with a macchiato latte and at 9:00 we drove to the farmers’ market. We bought a baguette, three tomatoes, and a bag of fresh lettuce mix and I walked the outer perimeter with a few short stops but without any significant difficulty.  We then drove home and I ate a bowl of granola with milk, yogurt, and a peach from our tree peeled and sliced.

I then watched Aston Villa beat West Hampton 2 to 1 in a spirited match.

We now had all the ingredients for a lovely BLT. Suzette fried five or six slices of bacon, toasted slices of baguette, sliced the large heirloom tomato we had bought. We each spread Mayo on or two slices of toast, lay slices of tomato and bacon on them and garnished with fresh lettuce.

Suzette drank a Carlsberg beer and I drank an Angry Orchard Apple cider.

From 1:30 or 2:30 I napped until 4:00 and Suzette worked at her desk.

The at 5:00 we grabbed a bottle of chilled Chablis and drove to Lowe’s and bought a bunch of Asparagus and then drove to Debbie’s for dinner.

Debbie had bought prawns at Costco and made pasta and added a white wine cream sauce to it and briefly cooked the shrimp so they retained their texture and flavor. Debbie fetched the ingredients including a home grown tomato from a friend, cucumber, shredded carrots, 1/2 of an avocado, mixed lettuces, and some romaine lettuce.  I made a dressing with balsamic vinegar, champagne vinegar dressing, and olive oil.

Debbie sautéed the asparagus and I made garlic bread by sautéing three cloves of crunched garlic in butter and olive oil and then sautéing the bread in the flavored garlic for a few minutes.

                                                           Looking west before sunset

                                                         Looking north

                                                          Looking West at sunset

Plate level view looking north during sunset

We ate outdoors at the table on the patio with its incredible view of the Sandias.

It got a bit buggy for me so we went back inside and soon Jason arrived and we talked until 8:00. Debbie was telling us about how helpful one of Jeff’s fried at work had been and rambled onto the fact that the friends were friends with Wilson and Roz Hurley and how they had all hung out together and how the friends still see Roz when they are in town and how they gave them a signed Wilson print. Then she said, “I am selling the house and downsizing and I want to give you the print. I just keep it in the closet anyway.”

Debbie and Suzette went back to her bedroom and soon I followed and Suzette became the owner of a signed Wilson Hurley print that was nicely framed under glass.  Debbie said it was also for my legal services preparing and filing Jeff’s probate and thanked me for how smoothly it went. Debbie also said Jeff’s friend gave them the print because was almost identical to the view looking north from their house.

So we drove home and arrived by 9:00 in time to watch Death in Paradise.

We watched.the show and I packed my suitcase and we went to bed at 10:00.

Bon Appetit
