May 7, 2022  Brunch - Egg, potato, sausage, onion, and green chili burritos. Snack- Sandwiches of brie and salami and chicken   Dinner - Dungeness crab, with tomato, avocado, and seaweed salad with Bob’s crab sauce

I awakened at 8:30 and watched a great match between Chelsea and the Wolverton Wolves that ended in a 2 to 2 tie with a last minute score by the Wolves.  Amazing.

Suzette worked with our new helper help to put the yard and patio back together after the painters finished painting the patio yesterday. They cleaned the pond and the hot tub also.

At 10:00 I went to the kitchen and made burritos.

I diced 1/3 potato, 1/2 onion, 1/2 green chili seeded and peeled and 1/2 cup of Jimmie Dean’s Sausage.

I sautéed the onion, potato, and sausage with 1 T. of butter.  Then I added the green chili and whisked 4 eggs with a dash of salt.  When the ingredients were cooked I added the eggs and scrambled all the ingredients.

Suzette then arrived in the kitchen and took over the dish and toasted two large burrito flour tortillas.  We gave our ingredients a dash of Cholula hot sauce and drank water with out burritos.

We like making burritos on Saturday mornings.

I then watched Brighton humiliate Manchester Union and then I took a shower and soaked in an epsom bath and then we rested until 3:00 when I cut a piece of French baguette into three slices and toasted them. I buttered two and lay slices of brie on them and then salami.  On the other I spread mayonnaise and then garnished that one with slices of chicken.

I drank a cup of tea with the sandwiches.

Then we decided to watch the Kentucky Derby.  Suzette made us Mint Juleps and we watched it and the Rangers vs Pittsburgh hockey Stanley Cup playoffs until 4:45 when we realized that we had an hour before the race that left her an hour to go to Lowe’s to buy eggs for a recipe she wanted to make that required eggs to be marinated in a marinade of 3 T. of lapsang soushong tea and 3 T. of soy sauce.

                                                   The marinade

Suzette also bought an avocado and a slicing tomato plus tonic water and soda water.

After watching the Kentucky Derby that was won by the 81 to 1 long shot that paid $163.80 for a $2.00 win ticket.

We decided to celebrate Mother’s Day by eating the fresh Dungeness crab I bought at Costco yesterday.

I then made my favorite sauce for crab. I minced a shallot and squeezed juice of a lemon and let it cook for about twenty minutes. Then I added Mayo, catsup, and horseradish to taste.

Suzette sliced the tomato and the avocado and made four deviled eggs, and spooned seaweed salad onto each plate.

Then Suzette fetched a bottle of Sauvage rose from the garage. Sauvage is an amazing sparkling wine made by Laurent Gruet for Gruet.  It is fermented and then no second infusion of yeast and sugar is added that is usually added.  The result is a champagne with no residual sugar but that has an intense Pinot noir flavor.  It is a marvelous drink with fresh crab because it cuts through crab’s rich flavor.

This was a wonderful meal worthy of a Mother’s Day dinner.  We ate it tonight because we will eat pancakes with Willy for breakfast tomorrow and will go to the pot luck for lunch.

I bought four clusters of body and claws.  We each ate one and we picked the remaining two clusters to be used for a crab soufflé on Wednesday for dinner with Melissa.

We also made a crab stock from the crab shells.

                                                               The shells

                                                           The picked crab

After dinner we watched Father Brown and Death in Paradise. Then Suzette went to bed at 10:00.

I stayed up until 1:00 watching Stanley Tucci the taste of Italy, Dallas beat  Calgary in Stanley Cup Playoffs, and Saturday Night Live.

A great day of food with prepping eggs for the pot luck at Cynthia and Ricardo’s party tomorrow and picking crab for a soufflé dinner for Melissa on Wednesday.

Bon Appetit
