August 11, 2021 Brunch - A bacon and Egg Breakfast. Dinner - Baked Corny Dogs with Cole Slaw

August 11, 2021 Brunch - A bacon and Egg Breakfast. Dinner - Baked Corny Dogs with Cole Slaw

Today was another collapse of Moderna and Square but an increase of the Dow to another record close. Another over 1% drop in my portfolio. I have given up trying to read the market.

We walked 1/3 mile at 8:30.

There were several home improvement events today.  The tree experts came to trim the cottonwood in the front yard.  They did a great job and I feel like they have given it many more years of life.

Then a wood worker came to give us an estimate to replace the bay windows and another carpenter came to give us an estimate to repair the wood around the roof line.

Suzette really has the home renovation moving along.

At 10:00 I became hungry and decided to make an American breakfast of bacon and eggs and toast.  I fried four pieces of bacon and three eggs over easy, one for Suzette and two for me.  We each toasted a slice of the Bistro’s new baker’s whole wheat bread and Spread butter and pineapple marmalade on the toast.

Suzette poured us glasses of Clamato juice with the juice of 1/2 lime squeezed into each.

I met with two clients until 1:00 and then napped until 2:00 and rested and read the Autobiography of Malcolm X until 3:00, when I drove to El Super and shopped for produce, including 7 lb. of cherries for Suzette to make into maraschino cherries, celery, zucchini, bananas, avocados, yellow and red and green onions, carrots, a red cabbage, ginger, tomatoes, limes, parsley, and cilantro.

I was starting to weaken when I finished shopping so I ate a handful of cherries. They were deliciously crisp and some were even sweet.  I felt revived as I drove to Sprouts, where I bought a Tuscan melon, a container of tofu, a red bell pepper, a mahi-mahi filet, yogurt, some hot cereal mixture, and milk.

El Super has the best prices on produce, especially on Wednesdays and Sprouts has the best prices on dairy and fish usually, although they are raising their prices, so my purchases had dwindled.

When I returned home at 4:30, I unloaded and put things up and made myself a gin and tonic, brought in the box of corny dogs, and sat down to recuperate.  I also ate a couple of chocolate cookies and several pecan pralines and some squares of Swedish chocolate with hazelnuts.

I felt like I had replenished the larder for another week or two.

Suzette took over and heated several corny dogs in the oven and made Cole slaw with red cabbage carrots, avocados, and mayonnaise.

I made another gin and tonic and we drank our cocktails with corny dogs dipped in yellow mustard and catsup with Cole slaw for dinner. Suzette also made a lovely tomato stuffed with Cole slaw nestled on a platform made from another slice of tomato.

Rather an odd dinner for us but real comfort food.  Suzette told me the seniors at the Center for Ageless Living love corny dogs, so I surmise that  love for a good corny dog is a life long affection.

After dinner I lay down and watched Bohemian Rhapsody and then the search for Cleopatra’s tomb on PBS.

We went to bed at 10:00, when I blogged this.

Bon Appetit
