July 17, 2021 Brunch - Egg Sandwich with Sausage, Lunch - 2000 Vietnam No. 30, Dinner - Sautéed Hamburger with Ratatouille and onion.
I read some information on my CPD condition yesterday that suggested eating small meals every 4 to 6 hours over the course of the day, so today I tried doing that.
At 7:00 I ate a bowl of granola with blueberries, milk, and yogurt while watching Stage 20 of the Tour. Today was the individual time trial and the strong Belgium rider who won on Mont Ventoux won, Wout Von Aert. None of the top ten places changed, with Tadjec Pogacar still in first place by over 5 minutes. The big excitement will be tomorrow when the Tour finishes on the Champs Ellysees and we see if Mark Cavendish breaks Eddie Mertzx’s record of 34 stage wins.
We walked a mile in 24 minutes at 8:30 at a good pace without stopping to rest.
Then we processed dried herbs, rosemary, lavender, and oregano, while we watched stage 20.
We are going to blend these three herbs with tarragon to make an Herbs de Simon to give as gifts and to use in our cooking.
At 11:00 Suzette got hungry and made us egg sandwiches. She made a scrabbled egg pancake and then sautéed a sausage patty for me and sandwiched those two ingredients between two pieces of toast. I enjoyed my second meal of the day a lot.
Peter and Etienne came at 2:00 with three No. 30s from 2000 Vietnam, fried egg rolls and grilled marinated pork on a bed of steamed rice vermicelli, on a bed of chopped lettuce, herbs, and mung bean sprouts served with a sweetened fish sauce to emulsify the noodles. I ate 1/2 of the portion so Suzette could share it and Peter added some of his uneaten noodles also.
Suzette was working at her desk and heated about 1/2 of what was left and ate it as her lunch.
At 4:30 I drove to El Super to replenish our produce. I bought a head of iceberg, cilantro, parsley, crema, onions, limes, a large avocado, two mangos, some red plums, celery, carrots, several lemons, leeks, green onions, bananas, and tomatoes. We should be good for another week or two.
After I returned home and unloaded I heated and ate a few bites of the leftover noodles with the last two pieces of egg roll at 5:30 and drank a T. of Carnatine supplement.
At 5:45 we drove to Belen for the Judy Chicago smoke display. We walked to the Jaramillo Winery Tasting Room and drank glasses of Judy Chicago red blend that was quite dry and not too tannic and waited for the display to begin at 7:45. We were sitting inside the tasting room when the pyrotechnics were lit and as soon as the smoke canisters ignited the building was engulfed in smoke and we realized we were downwind and would not be able to see the display properly as we did three years ago.
All we saw was a wall of smoke outside the window at ground level. The wind was blowing harder than three years ago so the smoke did not create a multicolored plume as it did three years ago, but instead dissipated quickly. Rather sad really.
We walked outside after the smoke subsided to the platform up wind from the display where Judy was standing and said hello and watched several more plumes of colored smoke as the last few smoke canisters that had failed to ignite were lit.
We then drove back to Albuquerque. I was hungry again so I sautéed a small hamburger we had thawed yesterday with a slice of onion and a spoonful of ratatouille and washed it down with a glass of Kirkland Malbec red wine chilled with several ice cubes at 9:30.
Ten minutes after we returned home Death in Paradise started, it was a re-run of the first episode from 2013, it was fun to see the first episode, especially since we had never seen it before.
At 10:00 Suzette went to bed and I watched the last half of a 2017 Grandchester PBS Mystery that I had seen before but enjoyed immensely. I recalled who did the murder but I enjoyed the plot and acting more the second time.
At 11:00 I made a cup of chai tea and wrote this blog.
I will not eat as much in the future as I did today but the multiple meals were an interesting experiment.
Bon Appetit
