July 14, 2026 Breakfast - Scrambled Paella. Lunch - Leftover steak, mushrooms, baked potato, and glazed carrots with chard. Dinner - PPI Spaghetti with clams and Baked Squashes with pinon nuts and pesto
Today illustrates how two different PPIs when combined create a new more complex dish.
Breakfast could be said to be a PPI because I converted what is generally a dinner dish, paella, into a breakfast dish by combining it with egg to make a fritata like egg foo young.
We then moved one of the umbrellas to behind the fish pond where two water Lillie’s were in bloom.
I rode my bike around the neighborhood and when I returned home watched Tadej add almost a minute to his lead in Stage 10 of the Tour de France and then worked on my pleading until 12:30.
For lunch I heated my uneaten dinner from several nights ago, grilled steak with sautéed mushrooms and shallots, a baked buttered bake potato, glazed carrots and the addition of chard from Willy’s garden.
It went to the cellar and fetched the oldest bottle from the wine cellar, a 2008 Italian Ripassa, a wonderful wine with great depth and clarity.
After a lovely lunch I watched Spain beat France in the World Cup semifinal, which made me happy.
The market closed during half time and I discovered that I had a good day in the market with my portfolio increasing by 1%.
Aaron and Alexi came over as the match went into a Seven Minute added time with Spain winning 2 to 0 around 3:00. We talked for a few minutes and then they left at 3:30.
I returned to my desk and worked on a matter for Rahim and the for an hour and then returned to drafting my pleading until 5:30.
I watched the news with Suzette about ICE killing another man after ramming his car to prevent his escape in Maine. I feel like reform of ICE is coming.
We remembered that we had discussed combing some of the leftover Spaghetti with clams with the leftover baked squash with pesto and toasted pine nuts.
I quartered the round slices of zucchini and yellow squashes and Suzette steamed flowerets of a head of broccoli and then sautéed the two leftovers combined in a skillet with the steamed broccoli to thoroughly mix the ingredients that created a very different tasting dish than either of the PPI dishes separately.
We drank glasses of Kirkland Pinot Grigio.
We then watched Finding Your Roots at 7:00 and then the last two episodes of Five Star Weekend on Peacock with sips of cognac and squares of Belgium milk chocolate.
Suzette went to bed at 9:45 and blogged until 10:45 after a full and very pleasant food day of several leftovers turned into PPIs.
Bon Appetit
