February 15, 2025 Breakfast - Lax and Bagels. Dinner - sautéed Smoked Pork Chop with PPI Pasta and Broccoli and cranberry sauce

This was a day dominated by two or three great soccer fixtures. The first was Leicester v. Arsenal. Leicester held No. 2 Arsenal to a 0 to 0 tie until the 80th minute when Arsenal substituted Merino into the fixture and he scored two goals in less than 10 minutes.  The other fixture I loved was a real scrap between Everton and Crystal Palace that Everton won 2 to 1 with a lot of effort. The third exciting fixture was Fulham holding off No. 3 Nottingham Forest to win 2 to 1.

I rode the bike 1 1/2 miles during the last 20 minutes of the Everton match.

Also, I ate 2 slices of toasted bagel spread with cream cheese and Gravad lax that was over two months old and rather dried out of its natural oil with red onion slices and capers at 8:00.

Suzette watched for a few minutes while she drank her coffee but then went to her office to work on billing for most of the rest of the day.

I felt queasy later from the old Gravad Lax and went back to bed at 12:30 and read and napped until 4:00 after eating two pieces of candy.

We walked around the block at 4:30 and decided to make dinner at 5:00 when we returned.

Suzette rinsed off two smoked pork chops while I destemmed the flowerets from two heads of broccoli. Suzette blanched the broccoli and then tossed the cooked broccoli with the pasta with mushrooms and cheese from last night’s dinner and fetched the PPI cranberry sauce.

I fetched a bottle of Tavel from the garage, opened it, and poured glasses of it. The Tavel was rather neutral in flavor, neither sweet of acidic, so a perfect food wine.

We enjoyed dinner and finished before 6:00, which was important because our favorite shows, Bill Maher and Have I got News for You came on at 6:00 and 7:00 on CNN, respectively.

We then watched the last 7 minutes when the U.S. hockey All Star team beat Canada in the 4 Nations Hockey competition and then Father Brown at 8:00 with a sip of cognac and sharing a slice of flourless chocolate torte.

Suzette went to bed at 9:00 and I stayed up until 10:45 to watch Death in Paradise and part of the new Masterpiece Sherlock Holmes.

I went to bed at 11:00 and slept until 6:00 a.m. when I blogged this entry.

Bon Appetit
