April 5, 2022 Brunch - Scrambled Eggs with Mahi Mahi and Avocado. Late Lunch - Barracuda Dinner - Hodgepodge of Tomato, ravioli, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, Mahi Mahi, octopus, and rice stew.

We rose late at 9:30. Suzette went for coffee and when she returned we made a brunch or scrambled eggs and fresh Mahi Mahi with green onions, and cilantro plus a skillet toasted slice of buttered spread with pineapple preserves.

We then walked the beach for about twenty minutes and then Suzette made an appointment for a pedicure at a salon on the main drag.

We returned and I rested while Suzette went to her appointment.  I ate some yogurt and a slice of banana bread at 2:30

When she returned we went to town to Barracuda where Suzette ordered a Barracuda special taco filled with shrimp and garnished with octopus in a cream sauce and a margarita. I ordered tuna sashimi and a mineral water.

We then returned to the hotel and on the way saw a street vendor selling fresh Mission figs so we bought a kilo for 100 pesos and then stopped for a scoop of pineapple sorbet.

When we returned to the swam for about twenty minutes.

We then watched an episode of The Last Kingdom and then cooked dinner.

Dinner prep was easy because it was mainly heated PPI including Tomato, ravioli, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, Mahi Mahi, octopus, and rice, plus Suzette added some water to make the dish more like a fish stew.  We added a diced tomato and three cloves of garlic.

I opened the bottle of Don Simon Spanish Tempranillo and we went upstairs a bit after 8:00 as the sun was setting behind the palm trees over the ocean.  The food was delicious and not too filling and the wine was great at $4.50 a bottle. Soft and not competing with the fish stew for attention.

This was another example of ugly food that tastes great.

It was a beautiful evening with that wonderful inverted sky with clouds high above the ocean so the sky was grey above and golden pink below.

After we ate dinner Suzette fetched the figs and sorbet and we enjoyed several figs stuffed with sorbet as we watched the light come on all across Sayulita’s  crescent shaped bay and headland on its south side.

We then watched another episode of The Last Kingdom and went to bed at 10:30.

We figured we spent $50 per day on food for the first 5 days of the trip, with about 1/2 of the meals being eaten at restaurants.

The market gave back almost all of yesterday’s gain today, alas,

Bon Appetit
