OCTOBER 19, 2024 Lunch - Sashimi. Dinner - Fried Oysters with Asparagus salad

I woke up at 5:30 to watch the early PL match between Tottenham and Westhampton that Tottenham won 4 to 1, then I watched Newcastle lose to Brighton 1 to 0, I missed most of the third match that Arsenal lost to Bournemouth 2 to 0.

I ate a pain au chocolate at 8:00 with a cup of tea. 

Suzette was hungry by 11:30 so I made 1 1/2 cups of sushi rice with 3 cups of water, 2 T. of mirin, 1 T. of sugar, and a tsp. of instant dashi.

I then peel and sliced 1/3 of a cucumber, sliced three radishes, a 5 oz. Aji tuna steak, a 6 oz. Salmon steak. And three sea scallops. I put pickled ginger in one bowl and pickled Korean basil and daikon in another bowl. I also but wasabi and soy in two dipping bowls and made a cup of green tea for me. Suzette drank the last of the Falerio Italian white wine and we ate a wonderful sashimi lunch.

We did not eat all of the ingredients so I wrapped them on my plate with Saran for tomorrow.

Then at 2:00 we napped. I woke up at 4:00 and Suzette woke up at 5:00.

I watched Tennessee beat Alabama, then Georgia beat Texas. 

Dinner - I bought 4 jars of Wesr Coast oysters yesterday at Smith ‘s for $4.24 each and we decided to fry them all for dinner.

Suzette prepared them by dipping them in milk then crushed saltine cracker crumbs, then egg, and finally cracker crumbs again and then fried them in 1/3 inch of hot canola oil.

While Suzette was preparing the fried oysters I made tartare sauce with lemon juice, pickle relish, mayonnaise and horseradish.

We ate them with the leftover asparagus salad that Nancy made for our dinner party last night that tasted much better tonight because the dressing marinated and softened the asparagus.

I opened a bottle of Granbazans Albariño that was delicious. We had visited Granbazans winery last year when we stayed in Cambados, Spain and it is one of our favorite albarinos.  We bought this bottle at Kokoman north of Santa Fe. After having a glass with dinner we drank the rest of the bottle in front of the TV as we watched Father Brown on PBS, and SNL. Suzette went to bed at 10:00 after Weekend Update on SNL but I stayed up to watch TCU beat Utah 13 to 7 in a rather lackluster game with a cup of chai and two oatmeal cookies.
