October 17, 2024 Breakfast - Colombo Almond Croissant Lunch - Costco Hot Dog. Dinner - Tortilla Burger with Grilled Asparagus
I ate the almond croissant we bought at the Colombo Bakery shop at the Philadelphia airport yesterday for breakfast with a cup of chai.
At 12:00 I drove to Costco to shop for our dinner tomorrow evening, but first I ate a hot dog with a Pepsi. I then bought duck halves, coconut milk, Gulden’s Belgium chocolates, mayonnaise, hamburger meat, eggs, two cod fillets, a case of Pellegrino, xerox paper, Halloween candy, baguettes, and lots of wine; two bottles each of Olarra 2016 Rioja Gran Reserva, Kirkland Pinot Grigio, and an Rias Biaxes Albarino, a bottle of Cotes du Bourg, and a bottle of Spanish Cava Rose’.
When I returned home I unloaded the groceries and put away Willy’s food from his apartment and then realized I had forgotten the potatoes for the dish. So at 3:15 I drove to El Super and bought white potatoes, vine ripe tomatoes, and yellow onions for the dish and milk, red onions, zucchinis, and mushrooms.
I returned home in time to meditate at 4:30 until 5:00 during which Suzette arrived.
Suzette had not eaten during the day so we decided to cook hamburgers at 5:30. Suzette recommended wrapping a hamburger in a flour tortilla to make a tortilla burger. I sautéed three slices of onion and toasted two large burrito tortillas and sliced a tomato while Suzette grilled the hamburgers and asparagus.
When everything was cooked and the tortillas toasted on the open gas stove flame, we each spread Mayo and relish on the tortilla. Then Suzette sliced a heart of romaine lettuce into strips and cut the hamburgers in half and lay the hamburger, lettuce, tomato slices, and sautéed onions on the relish and Mayo and we wrapped the tortilla around the ingredients to make a large burrito like roll that we could eat like a burrito.
I opened one of the bottles of 2016 Olarra Gran Reserva and filled glasses. Suzette detected a slight bitterness on the finish. It was not a perfect Wine but I was left wondering how it would age. At $12.99 per bottle, it is the cheapest Gran Reserve I have seen and aging usually benefits Riojas.
After dinner we watched Denver beat New Orleans for a while and then Midsomer Murders with cognac and chocolates.p until 9:30 when we went to bed.
Bon Appetit
