June 7, 2021 Breakfast - Potato, mushroom, and cheese omelet. Lunch - Hamachi Sashimi and Sushi rice. Dinner - Villa Amor
Today started slowly. We made a potato, mushroom, cheese, and green onion omelet. Suzette had started listening to a three hour seminar before I finished the omelet so I took the omelets up to the casita and served her her half.
A Lizard
I ate my half with a cup of chai tea and lay down to rest until she finished. We then drove to the main beach in Sayulita and walked to Don Pedro’s around 2:00. On the way we bought an almond croissant, a chocolate Roll, and a baguette at the Gourmet Cafe. The available chairs and tables were all taken at Don Pedro’s so the waiters set up a sombrilla/umbrella and lounge chairs and a table for us on the beach.
We ordered two orange juices and rum drinks. At about 3:00 we ordered a dish of Hamachi sashimi and an order of sushi rice to replicate Chirashi. The hamachi/yellowtail/amber Jack was the best and freshest I have ever eaten. The five generous thick slices were dusted with flying fish eggs and served with two slices of watermelon radish, a pile of pickled ginger, a bowl of ponzu sauce, wasabi, soy, and a small pile of seaweed salad. I cut each slice into four pieces and divided them between Suzette and me.
We used a tea cup plate as our dipping bowl in which we mixed soy and wasabi and enjoyed one of the best lunches of the trip.
We kept refreshing our drink with ice to stretch them and keep them cool.
We went into the water twice although we only went in to about our chests standing beyond the point where the swells became big walls of water. We rode the incoming tide which carried us over the swells, which was fun. On our way home we made reservations at Villa Amor for dinner at 7:30.
Around 5:00 we returned to Villa Bali and showered and dressed for dinner.
At 7:15 TR drove us to the Si Senor Restaurant at Villa Amor where we were seated at a beach front table. Villa Amor probably has the best sited restaurant in Sayulita beside a group of rocks and the ocean with a view of downtown Sayulita and the entire sweep of the bay. Really breathtaking as the sun shone on the town in the glow of sunset.
Suzette’s Giant Prawns
Tonight I had trouble ordering because the prices were about double those of last night. I finally settled on an entire red snappier cooked in a red sauce zardeneado, which is a slightly picante tomato based sauce, because Linda agreed to share it with me. T.R. chose the filet Mignon and Suzette choose the Blue Shrimp special; giant Prawns grilled in mojo de Ajo sauce.
The vegetables were cut in big jagged shapes and undercooked because they were not blanched before they were sautéed. Suzette gave me one of
her shrimp. It was large and tender and rich like lobster. Definitely a great dish. And T.R.’s filet looked good also.
I felt like the red snapper was small. It yielded only two small fillets. That is what I deserve for ordering less than the best dish because of menu sticker shock.
Often the view makes it all worth it, but for some reason, even though we had the best view in a Sayulita, that did not occur tonight.
Such a feeling was silly because I had a better than okay day in the market with my portfolio rising .45%.
We returned home at 9:30 and said good night.
On balance I would rate Sayulita restaurants excellent. And how can you criticize a town with its own French bakery.
Bon Appetit
