February 5, 2024 Lunch - Toasted bagel with cream cheese and cheese. Dinner - Meatloaf with Roasted Smashed baby potatoes and green salad

February 5, 2024 Lunch - Toasted bagel with cream cheese and cheese. Dinner - Meatloaf with Roasted Smashed baby potatoes and green salad

Today was light on food again.  I worked until 10:30 and the ate a bowl of granola with milk and blueberries and yogurt and 1/2 banana sliced.

Then at 1:00 i toasted 1/2 bagel and spread cream cheese on it and lay slices of cheese on it and ate it with a couple of cups of Earl Grey tea with milk and watched Man City beat Brentford 4 to 1.

I checked the market after 2:00 and my portfolio was up even though the market was down thanks to strong gains by Nvidia and Caterpillar and a decent gain by Apple.

Willy came by at 4:00 to do his wash and we walked with Carol one mile around the neighborhood.

When I returned at 5:00 Suzette put the small creamer potatoes into the oven to bake.  Then at 6:00 I made a salad with romaine lettuce, a diced small avocado, a diced tomato, two sliced radishes, three anchovies diced, and about 1 oz. of thinly sliced red onion. I dressed and tossed the salad with the usual Cesar dressing.

Suzette opened a 2014 Martin Ray Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon.

The wine was elegant and pleasant with the meatloaf.

When the potatoes were roasted, Suzette smashed them to about 1/2 of their original height and heated several slices of the PPI meatloaf.

The anchovies and avocado seemed to have disappeared into the dressing visually, but their flavors continued to make it one of the best salads we have eaten in a long time. The potatoes were excellent, but the salad was superb.

I went to the basement after dinner and fetched a bottle of Maison Serene cognac and sipped it with two chocolates for dessert, we watched Antiques Roadshow.

February 6, 2023 Lunch - Pita Sandwiches. Dinner - Sautéed Rib Steak with mushrooms

February 6, 2023 Lunch - Pita Sandwiches. Dinner - Sautéed Rib Steak with  mushrooms

We are getting low on lots of things and are trying to use up those things we have lots of.

We have lots of cheese, so this morning I cut 1/2 bagel into two slices and toasted and spread them with cream cheese and salmon flavored cod roe and garnished them with slices of cheese and drank a cup of tea.

Then at 1:30 I cut a pita in half and toasted the halves until they were warm and stuffed each with feta, tomato slices and labni and put two rounds of cured ham in one and four rounds of salami in the other and ate them with eight black olives and a glass of yogurt milk. They were delicious and filling but not overpowering.

Then I walked around the block.

When I returned I checked my portfolio and it was up a very small amount, due mainly to gains h the stocks Willy recommended, Palantir and Enphase that Willy recommended.

Suzette came home by 5:00 sore from a chiropractic appointment so I went to the bedroom to read and let her rejuvenate, watching home decorating programs with a glass of red wine.

At 6:15 Suzette came looking for me to start dinner.

I had thawed a small rib steak and suggested cooking it with onions and mushrooms and serving PPI couscous with it.  Suzette agreed and then asked which red wine to open and I suggested a bottle of Cherry Blossom Pinot Noir from California, a good Pinot for $5.00 sold by Trader Joe’s

I sliced seven mushrooms, one onion, a shallot, and three cloves of garlic and fetched the amontillado sherry.

Suzette cooked the five 1/2 inch thick slices of onion in butter first in a single cast iron skillet.

Then she cooked the steak, mushrooms, garlic and shallot.

Finally she added a dash of sherry, removed the steak, quartered the cooked onions and added them back to the skillet and heated the couscous in the microwave.

We poured out the last of the Pinot and as Suzette plated the couscous and sautéed vegetables, I sliced the steak and leaned slices of steak on the pile of couscous and sprinkled the dish with minced parsley. It was an incredible comfort food dinner.

I can not describe how wonderful the cooked sherry, steak, and garlic flavored onions, mushrooms, shallot were. Especially when combined with the couscous.

After dinner we watched finding your roots and then Lawrence and then went to bed.

Today the DC Circuit court issued its opinion that Trump is not immune from criminal prosecution in the Jan. 6th criminal trial, saying “No person is above the law.”

At least for now the judiciary is holding firm against Trump’s attempts to become a dictator.

The big test will be whether the Supreme Court disqualifies him from running to for office based on Section 3  on the 14th Amendment.

Disqualification will end Trumpism and assert the power of the Supreme Court.

February 3, 2024 Lunch - Salmon and Tuna Sashimi. Dinner - Teriyaki Salmon grilled on a cedar plank with Pea, tomato, red onions, parsley, and garlic Couscous

February 3, 2024 Lunch - Salmon and Tuna Sashimi. Dinner - Teriyaki Salmon grilled on a cedar plank with Pea, tomato, red onions, parsley, and garlic Couscous

I started the day with a foamy cafe Maciata and a heated chocolate crepe.

Then at 12:00 I made teriyaki sauce by heating 1/3 cup each of soy, mirin and white vermouth instead I’d sake and 1 T. of sugar.  The teriyaki sauce was a bit sweeter than if I had used sake because of the sugar in the vermouth. We took the salmon fillet out of the freezer and began thawing it.

We then started assembling a platter of sashimi.  I sliced an Aji tuna steak and the tail section on the salmon fillet I bought at Smith’s this week.

Then I peeled, seeded, and sliced 1/3 cucumber and sliced three radishes and a large avocado.

Suzette heated the PPI sushi rice and filled the dipping bowls with soy and wasabi and poured glasses of Sauvignon blanc.

I filled a small ramekin with pickled ginger and Suzette boiled about a dozen frozen headless shrimp in teriyaki.

I drank green tea and Suzette drank white wine and we had a wonderful lunch.

We unloaded the records from the stereo cabinet, brought in a couple of large boxes, and I paid for some of the bathroom fixtures.

After the salmon fillet began thawing Suzette poured the teriyaki sauce into the freezer bag with the salmon.

After lunch Suzette napped and I read and napped until 3:30 when Aaron, Monika, and Alex came by.

We talked for a while and made Monica a cup of coffee.

After they left we rested until 6:30 when I made a very interesting couscous for dinner.  I sautéed frozen green peas, two romaine tomatoes diced, two cloves of garlic, 1/8 red onion, 1/2 shallot and a small handful of parsley in a pan with 4 oz. of butter for a couple of minutes and then added 1 1/4 cup of couscous and sautéed the couscous for a couple of minutes.  I then added two cups of boiling water and covered the pan and cooked it add high heat for a minute and the lowered the heat to low and cooked another couple of minutes and then turned off the heat and let the ingredients and steamed the couscous covered.

Prior to dinner Suzette cut and soaked a cedar board in water in the tub. Then at 6:30 Suzette placed the teriyaki marinated salmon fillet on the board and grilled it in the propane gas grill outside.

The salmon was cooked and the couscous was ready when Willy arrived at around 6:50. I asked Willy what he wanted to drink and he said red wine, so I opened a bottle of Kirkland Malbec.

Suzette cut the fillet into three pieces and lay each piece on a pile of couscous and we poured glasses of Malbec and had a great dinner.

Willy left at 7:50 and we watched a documentary on Martha Stewart and then Death in Paradise.

Suzette went to bed at 10:00 and I stayed up to watch “Nina” and blog and ate a chocolate and tea and sipped a Calvados.

February 4, 2024 Brunch - Sausage, onion, potato, and egg burritos with bacon, and orange juice. Late Lunch - Salami and chicken salad sandwiches with yogurt milk.

Today was relaxing and only two meals.

At 11:00 after the news I fried six slices of bacon and then diced 2/3 of an onion, a baked potato, four cloves of garlic minced, and sliced two sausage patties that I sautéed with 4 T. of butter and when cooked added five whisked eggs mixed with a dash of salt, white pepper, and oregano. While the ingredients were sautéing I sliced an avocado into thin slices.and filled three glasses with fresh orange juice from El Super.

Willy arrived around 11:15 and we toasted a flour tortilla for each of us and we each filled our tortilla with the cooked mixture and took two slices of bacon and ate a tremendous brunch.

At 3:30 I became hungry again and so did l. Suzette ate all except the last two T. of chicken salad and I toasted three slices of baguette.

I spread basil Mayo on two and then lay slices of fontina cheese on top and then three slices of cured ham on one and four slices of salami on the other and the last two T. of chicken salad on the third slice.

I ate this hearty meal with a glass of yogurt milk and then at 4:00 walked to the country club and back.

Neither Suzette or I were hungry so we did not eat dinner.

I did eat cookies with hot tea with milk later as we watched TV.

February 2, 2023 Breakfast - lax on bagel. lunch - Costco Hot Dog Dinner - Meatloaf with mashed potatoes in a roasted acorn squash

February 2, 2023 Breakfast - lax on bagel. lunch - Costco Hot Dog  Dinner - Meatloaf with mashed potatoes in a roasted acorn squash

I woke up around 7:20 and watched the market opening. Iimmediately became apparent that the. Market was on a strong upward movement with Nvidia, Mets, and Amazon moving up dramatically. I was busy this morning but took time to put in a limit order for 200 shares of Pay Pal that filled by the end of the day.

This was one of my best days ever for my portfolio with an increase of 2% today and 3.6% in the last two days to near a new all time high.

I found a case on point for the restrictive covenant case that I have been working on, which made me very happy.

Then at 9:30 I toasted and spread cream cheese on two 1/4 bagel slices and added thin slices of red onion and Gravad lax.

I then worked until 1:00 when I ate about four bites of chicken salad and drove to an appointment at Colliers Real Estate office in the Journal Center.

After appointment I drove to Costco and bought 7 bottles of wine, two baguettes, and a 3 liter bottle of Spanish olive oil.

After shopping I ate a hot dog with a glass of Pepsi and drove home.

When I returned home at 4:15 I was tired and sat for a while.

Suzette heated and served some leftover meatloaf, mashed potatoes, on a baked acorn squash half with a glass of Chianti.

Then at 7:00 when we grabbed a bottle of Kirkland Riserva Chianti, a half loaf.of brie and a baguette.

We drove to Bev and Glan’s house on Roma at 7:30 for a lovely concert in their living room.  It was given by a trio of two women and a male bassist who sang lots of original songs and several French Canadian and French songs  .

It was a lovely evening of music that ended at 10:00.

We drove home and I drank a sniffer of Calvados with a cup of tea and two chocolate covered chocolates.

Suzette ate two also and went to bed.

I watched the news and wrote this blog and stayed up to watch TV.
