October 24, 2025 Breakfast - Granola and Blueberries. Lunch - Leftover Chirashi. Dinner - Neighborhood Cocktail party

I awakened at 7:40 and at 8:00 ate granola with milk, yogurt, and blueberries. Then I worked until 1:30 when I fetched the Leftover Chirashi from lunch yesterday at Tamashi and several leaves of Korean basil from the garden.

I made hot green tea and heated the leftover sushi rice in the microwave and lay the pieces of escarole, blue fin tuna, salmon, yellow tail, Chilean Sea Bass and omelet on the plate with the pickled burdock and opened the pickled ginger and mixed wasabi with soy in a dipping bowl  and fetched the pickled daikon and Korean basil.

I cut each large slice of fish into six or seven smaller pieces and began eating each with bits of pickled ginger and an sip of tea or chunks of sushi rice that had become stiffened in the microwave or a piece of pickled daikon or Korean basil.

I made a discovery today. The mature leaves of the Korean basil that turn a dark red are tender and pleasant tasting, but the younger leaves that are still green under the leave are tough and bitter.

So after lunch I returned to the garden and collected about seven or eight leaves with dark red undersides and de-stemmed them and cut them into bite-sized pieces and put them into the bottle with the other pickled daikon and basil to pickle.

I had a container of pickled ginger and one of wasabi left from lunch yesterday that I put into the fridge with the bottle filled with fresh basil.

At 2:30 I returned to my desk and checked my portfolio. The market had been rising all day. At the close the Dow was up 472 and the NASDAQ was up 263, with most of the high reach sector up. Apple closed up $3.24 and Nvidia closed up $4.10, which helped my portfolio gain 1.4%.

Suzette came home around 4:00 so I quit work at 4:30 when we started making deviled eggs for the neighborhood cocktail party.

Suzette boiled nine eggs and when they were cool and peeled cut them in half and removed the yolks to a bowl and she added mayonnaise, a tsp. of curry powder, and about 1/4 cup of finely minced lovage that I picked in the garden and stirred vigorously to emulsify and then refilled the cavities with the mixture.

We were one of the first to arrive at the party at 6:00. The food was fabulous, one couple made a charcuterie board with foie gras balls made with pork and goose liver. Susie, the professional baker made a chocolate mouse with milk and cream and chocolate and sugar, but no eggs. Tom and his wife brought a container of jumbo shrimp and there was even a loaf of freshly baked bread with a cheese spread. I spread the cheese on a thick slice of fresh bread and added slices of prosciutto from the charcuterie platter to make a sandwich and spread two pate balls on two cheesy biscuits from the platter and took two shrimp, a date stuffed with cream cheese Susan made, and a deviled egg for dinner with a cup of the Priorat we brought.

There were several baked Brie offerings en croute, but I passed on them.

Ted brought hot corn dogs, so I ate one as an appetizer while they were still hot and after eating dinner, ate a few bites of chocolate mousse and got the general recipe from Susie..

We left at 7:30 . When we arrived home I turned on the first game of the World Series being played in Toronto between the Blue Jays and the LA  Dodgers. The score was tied 2 to 2 in the fourth inning. I made a cup of Earl grey and poured a small glass of Kelt cognac and we settled into our big chairs. Soon the Blue Jays started hitting home runs including a grand slam home run by a pinch hitter and the score climbed to 11 to 2, at which point Suzette was tired and lay down and I switched to the Albuquerque United v. Rhode Island soccer match and enjoyed watching The United win 2 to 1.

Then at 9:30 I got in bed to blog and watch the last inning of the World Series that ended 11 to 4.

I then blogged and went to bed.

Bon Appetit
