January 20, 2023 Breakfast - bacon, cheese, tomato, and egg sandwich. Snack. Salami and ham and cheese sandwich. Dinner - Triana
To use Suzette’s words, “This was a very pleasant day”
We made Bacon, tomato, melted slices of cheddar cheese, and egg sandwiches for breakfast. Suzette slopped a leaf of lettuce into hers to make it an elaborate BLT sandwich.
Suzette then went to Los Lunas and I went to my desk to work until 3:00 when I made an open faced sandwich with basil Mayo, salami and ham, lettuce, and slices aged Gouda cheese and a dab of mustard.
We then showered and dressed and watched the NFL playoff game until 4:00 when we dressed for the symphony. At 5:00 we drove to UNM and heard several wonderful pieces titled cappricio played by the NM philharmonic. The last capriccio written by Saint Saens was particularly moving.
After the symphony we met Cliff and Nancy for dinner at Triana at 111 Carlisle NE, at the corner of Campus and Carlisle. Triana features Spanish cuisine.
As soon as we arrived and looked at the wine menu we saw Martin Codex Albariño and ordered a bottle of it.
We then each started picking dishes from the Tapas section and the large plate sections of the menu.
We started with a cold soup and warm garbanzo beans with spinach; Salmorejo | southern Spain’s gazpacho cousin. A puréed soup of tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, and sherry vinegar, topped with jamón serrano, hard-boiled egg, and olive oil.
Garbanzos con Espinaca | garbanzo beans (chickpeas) stewed with spinach and finished with Spanish paprika.

Then we ordered several more dishes, including Gambas al Ajillo, shrimp sautéed in garlic olive oil with sherry and árbol chiles with grilled lemon and bread.
and Pollo en Samfaina | Roasted dry-brined chicken leg quarter on a bed of chargrilled eggplant and summer squash, drowned in a Catalan tomato stew and garnished with fresh herbs. GF.
Finally we ordered Rabo de Toro | sous-vide-prepared oxtail with Manchego mashed potatoes, espagnole sauce, and deep-fried onions.

We shared and loved everything. It was like being back in Spain for a meal.
The proprietor then suggested we try the two desserts, a creme brûlée garnished with fresh fruit and a wedge of almond cake with a wedge of poached pear and a drizzle of caramel.
Both desserts were excellent. The almond cake was better than the ones we tasted in Spain.
We enjoyed our dinner immensely and will go back for happy hour some day between 4 and 6:00.
We said goodnight to the Blaugrunds at 9:30 and we’re home by 10:00 for me to see , my new favorite French hospital drama.
