July 4, 2019 Lunch – Miso Maya Dinner – Dinner Party at Chuck and Elsa’s house.

July 4, 2019 Lunch – Miso Maya  Dinner – Dinner Party at Chuck and Elsa’s house.

I awoke at sun up and sat in the TV viewing area and blogged as the squirrels ran across the roof.

A little later I ate Kirkland Greek yogurt and fresh blueberries.

When everyone awakened I ate a toasted bagel with cream cheese, chopped onion and a piece of Lax around 11:00.Billy made beans with navy beans flavored with brown sugar, vinegar, onions, and green bell pepper.  Elaine made strawberry sorbet.

We finally decided to go eat lunch at 12:30 after Willy worked out plans for the afternoon with his friends.

We drove to Mesa Maya at Preston and Royal, an upscale traditional Mexican restaurant.  I ordered a Queso Fundido with chorizo and corn tortillas.  It was extremely greasy but very tasty.  I ate three corn tortillas filled with the warm cheese. This is a real Mexican restaurant with the little lady making fresh corn tortillas by the front door.

I did not know what to order but had passes a table with a Mexican family eating steaks tampequeno so I ordered that.  Suzette ordered fish tacos and Billy and Elaine split a ceviche salad.  Willy ordered a special dish with chicken and beans in a cream sauce on a tortilla and cheese.

This was a big food day and at this point I had eaten. Three times, so could not finish my plate.  We packed up most of Willy’s, half of Suzette’s and half of mine for breakfast.  We drove home by way of an urban hiking and bike trail across north Dallas in a high voltage transmission line easement.  Soon after we went home Willy’s friends picked him up and we lay down for naps.

I think I slept until about 4:00 when I took a shower and came out to the TV room and watched the news.  At 7:00 We packed the beans, the sorbet, the bottle of Aix Rose, and brownies and drove to Chuck and Elsa’s house.  There was a WWII vet, Jim, and David, a Londoner who lived through the Blitz.  As it turned out David was a good baker, who made two amazing desserts, an oatmeal bar with raisins, butter, oatmeal, and brown sugar and flour and pillows of  light as air French Pastry filled with grape jam.

Two tables were filled with food, appetizers on one and hamburgers and all the fixings on the other.  Here are the pictures

Chuck, our host, is a war historian and memorabilia and book collector of the highest order.  He is assembling a collection of war related items that will form the core of a museum someday.  We spent a lot of time looking at his collection of war related items and then his art collection.  Chuck is a serious collector, but more-so of war related items.

We ate dinner and at 9:00 walked up the street to a vantage point above Northwood CC were we saw a spectacular fireworks display.

It was spectacular with many displays seeming to burst almost over our heads and the thud of the explosions that propelled the aerial salutes felt in our body.

After the fireworks I got a ride back and when everyone returned we sat and watched Chuck’s pictures of Troyes, France and D Day celebrations this year at the Normandy beaches.  Chuck and Elsa had not been to the June 6 picnic on Omaha Beach, so we showed them our pictures of it.

We left at 10:30 after a lovely day with lots of food we drove home.

Bon Appetit
