September 21, 2024 Last Day in Combarro Lunch - A Baiuco in Mondariz.   Dinner - Leftover Linguine in tomato sauce

Today we drove south east to Mondariz that is one of the oldest Thermal spas in Europe dating from 1878. We arrived at 11:15 and bought a two hour ticket. The pool was not as great as Solares but the water felt wonderful. The best part was the open air pool of warm thermal water on an upper terrace. It reminded me of the open pools in Ourense.

I can tell when the thermal water is good because it takes away all my pain and I feel like I am experiencing an out of body experience.

We soaked until 1:15 and then dressed and drove to A Baiuco in Mondariz a restaurant Willy picked with a five star rating that turned out to be very interesting. It was located in what appeared to be an old market or large food hall. What makes this restaurant unique is it quality of ingredients served in generous portions at reasonable prices. Suzette ordered the Burrata and chicken finger salad that had ingredients such as watercress and strawberries and pumpkin seeds plus lettuce, tomatoes, burrata, fried chicken strips, and a raspberry dressing.

Willy ordered a hamburger that was oversized and a combination of mixed meat, probably pork and veal. Billy ordered a grilled marinated chicken sandwich and I ordered fried calamari with a side of aioli. We drank beers and water. It was a wonderful meal that exceeded all expectations.

We then drove to Sobroso Castle, a restored Medieval castle near the Portuguese border that guarded the kingdom of Galicia in its day. It sit atop a high hill in an easily defended position.  It was closed but we walked around it on a handicapped accessible walkway.

We then drove back to the house and took showered and packed.

At 8:30 we heated the leftover linguine and meatballs and added the vegetables and two sausages.

We went to bed at 10:00 because we get up at 6:30 to drop Willy off at the bus station and drive Madrid tomorrow.

Bon Appetit
