September 7, 2025 Breakfast - Granola, milk, mango yogurt, and grapes Brunch - Bacon, Eggs, and Calabacitas. Dinner - Tailgating in the Santa Fe Opera parking lot
I woke up early again at 6:00 and did some research until 7:30, when I started watching the news and then the last 30 km. of Stage 15 of the Tour of Spain that Mats Petersen won in a sprint finish to extend his lead in the green jersey category. During the race I ate a bowl of granola with milk, mango yogurt, and five of the grapes Emily brought us halved.
Then we moved chairs from the garage to the closet on the back porch.
At 11:30 Suzette was hungry, so i fried bacon and eggs and added a scoop of the reheated Calabacitas I made yesterday to each plate. Suzette made her Sunday Bloody Mary and I drank chai.
I ate only one of my slices of fried bacon, so I toasted a corn tortilla and melted some cubes of cheddar cheese on it with the slice of bacon to make a melted cheese and bacon wrap.
After lunch Suzette made lovely golden brown croutons to garnish the cucumber soup.
Then I rested until 3:00 while Suzette worked at her desk.
At 4:00 we organized the food for our trip to Santa Fe; Gravad Lax, red onion, cream cheese, and bagels and a tailgate dinner for Prairie Home Companion tonight consisting of chicken salad flavored with apricot chutney we made yesterday, a sliced pear thanks to Debbie, a thermos of cucumber soup Suzette made yesterday, and a container of cherry tomatoes from our garden plus a bottle of Vouvray.
When we arrived at the Opera parking lot there were already lots of cars with tailgate dinners in progress. Suzette covered the back of the BMW with a blanket and opened the picnic basket that transformed into a small table. We then filled the table with the containers of food and opened the freezer bag with slices of baguette that we loaded with chicken salad to make mini chicken salad sandwiches and Suzette garnished cups of cucumber soup with croutons.
I opened the Vouvray and poured us glasses of the wonderful off dry chenin Blanc.
By 6:30 we had eaten all the food, so we packed the empty containers and walked into the opera for the Prairie Home Companion show.
It started at 7:00 and ended at 10:00 with the audience joining the singers singing America the Beautiful.
There was music, songs, jokes, skits, and a lengthy segment of news from Wobegone Minnesota by Garrison who is a natural entertainer, even at the age of 83. It was every bit as entertaining as the original radio shows. At one point in the show Garrison told about how the show started when he pitched the director of Minnesota public radio in 1974 on the idea of doing a radio show similar to Grand Ole Opry in Minnesota and the director told him to go ahead and try to do it.
He then said that director’s name and he was sitting in the audience and the audience gave him a rousing applause. It was that kind of easy going presentation with the audience singing along on the popular songs.
We loved the show. It was very uplifting for me.
I drove us to TR and Linda’s house after the show and we went to bed at 10:30.
I to blog and Suzette to sleep.
Bon Appetit
