January 9, 2024 Lunch - Costco Hot dog. Dinner - Pork and Sauerkraut on Ann Acorn Squash Paddy
I got up and ate a chocolate Croissant with a latte Macchiato while watching President Carter’s Official State Funeral at the National Cathedral.
At 9:00 I got dressed and at 9:30 Suzette and I drove to Costco for my 10:00 follow up appointment at the Hearing Aid Center. John showed me how to turn on the digital audio function on the TV. Then I joined Suzette who was already shopping and had bought storage containers. We bought eggs, heavy cream, mushrooms, baby spinach, two packages of duck halves, Peet’s coffee beans, trash bags, collagen powder, and ten bottles of wine, including a Canadian ice wine, a Brunello di Montalcino, a Jadot Red Burgundy De Beaune, a Jadot Beaujolais Villages, a couple of Pinot Grigios, a California Zinfandel, and a couple others.
Then when finished shopping we ate hot dogs with a cold drink.
After we loaded the car we drove to El Super for our second shopping experience of the day. We bought orange juice, milk, radishes, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, lemons, Fuji apples, Pasilla peppers, parsley, cilantro, mango yogurt, carrots, green beans, and a Negra Modelo 12 pack.
When we returned home and unloaded around 12:30 I lay down and napped until 2:00.
Then I went to Bill Turner’s office to edit pleadings until 5:00.
When I returned home at 5:30 Mr. Hadi arrived and we sent the PA to the title Compny again.
Suzette created an innovative recipe for dinner. She had baked an acorn squash and a spaghetti squash the other day.
Tonight she spooned out the squash and mixed it with honey and finely chopped pecans and fried it into two patties in butter and olive oil that became the base for a pile of heated PPI Pork and Sauerkraut. She also steamed broccoli for a nicely balanced dinner menu.
I opened the bottle of 2020 Hermann Weimar Semi-dry Riesling. The wine’s slight sweetness was a perfect complement to the vinegary sauerkraut.
We watched the NCAA football semi-final between Notre Dame and Penn State and after 8:00 switched back and forth between the game and Midsomer Murders and I ate a bowl of yogurt with chopped pecans and brandied strawberries.
Notre Dame kicked a 3 point field goal with 6 seconds to go to win.
Then I switched back to Midsomer Murders until it ended at 9:30, when we went to bed.
Sometimes the simplest of ingredients such as baked acorn squash can help create a really interesting dish.
Bon Appetit
