January 19, 2024 Brunch - BLT and Egg sandwiches Snack - Cheese and Liverwurst Dinner - Hamburger with Sautéed Mushrooms, garlic and onion with Cottage Fries and Steamed Green Beans

January 19, 2024 Brunch - BLT and Egg sandwiches  Snack - Cheese and Liverwurst  Dinner - Hamburger with Sautéed Mushrooms, garlic and onion with Cottage Fries and Steamed Green Beans

I woke up at 7:30 and watched a Man United lose to Brighton which was devastating because Man United used to be one of the premier teams. Then a spirited comeback by Tottenham against Everton indicated that Tottenham was showing signs of life. But the most amazing match was a 6 to 0 win by Man City that showed positive signs of recovery from its early slump that put into 4th place with the hope that they would use all its brilliant players to show up and win.

Brunch - At 10:00 we made BLT and Egg Sandwiches on toasted Pepperidge Farms Seeded Rye bread spread with Mayo and garnished with tomato slices, lettuce, a slice of egg pancake, and fried bacon.

I drank green tea and Suzette drank orange juice.

Then I watched the Man City match and rode 1 1/2 miles on the therapeutic bike.

At 1:00 I watched the NFL division playoff game between L.A. Rams against the Philadelphia, which Philadelphia won.

At 3:00 we ate a snack of Affinois and blue cheese on Carr’s cheese biscuits with glasses of Late Bottled Ruby Port.

We booked airfare to Uguazu Falls and back to Salta and 4 nights at a small BNB at Puerto Guazu and at the Piattelli Winery Resort in Cafayute, so we are going to Argentina.

Then at 4:00 I walked around the block to get to 3000 steps today.

At 4:30 the second divisional playoff between Buffalo and Baltimore started. Both games were played in the falling snow and Buffalo won when Baltimore missed it two point conversion to try to tie with one minute to go.

Dinner - At 6:00 we made dinner with a decidedly Argentinian flare. Suzette formed the rest of the ground beef into two 3/4 lb. hamburgers seasoned with Aleppo red chili and z’Atar and snapped some green beans, while I thinly sliced three Yukon Gold potatoes for Cottage fries and 1/3 sweet onion, four cloves of garlic and four portobello mushrooms for sautéing with the hamburger.

Suzette then steamed the green beans, sautéed the potato slices in coconut oil and sautéed the hamburgers in some of the bacon grease left from our brunch. After flipping the potatoes and the burgers Suzette added the onions to the hamburger skillet and a minute or two later the mushrooms.

I opened a bottle of Kirkland Argentinian Malbec and poured a taste during dinner prep to taste it. It was fine but not exiting like the bottle of Salvard Geverny white last night.

Suzette fetched two leafs of red lettuce and lay the hamburger, onions, and mushrooms on the leaf and beside the hamburger, a pile of golden brown cottage fries and a smaller pile of green beans.

Suzette fetched the catsup and we filled our glasses and enjoyed an Argentinian style meal.

We watched the the end of the Buffalo v. Baltimore game that was surprisingly competitive considering the horrible weather conditions of playing in a blizzard and then at 7:20 we move up to the comfortable chairs and watched Miss Scarlet on PBS and talked to Willy for a while about Buenos Aires.

We lost volume from the TV several times during Miss Scarlet so at 8:30 Suzette got into her night gown and I into my pajamas and I started this blog entry and Suzette read until 9:00 when we turned on Vienna Blood but I dozed during it and we went to bed at 10:00.

I awakened at 4:00 a.m. to finish this entry and drink my first cup if green tea of the day.

A welcomed consequence of Trump being elected and the Republicans being in power for me is that it will free me from my obsessive watching of the news and it will prompt us to travel more.

Like Dave Chappelle said in his opening monologue on SNL Saturday night, “ I hope Trump does better this time than he did his first time.”

Bon Appetit
