September 17, 2019 Brunch – Vegetarian BLT Sandwich and fruit, yogurt, almonds, and cantaloupe Dinner – Pho

September 17, 2019 Brunch – Vegetarian BLT Sandwich and fruit, yogurt, almonds, and cantaloupe   Dinner – Pho

We awakened at 4:30, dressed, and made bagels with cream cheese, pesto, and red onion slices. I sliced the last three tomatoes and bagged everything.  We drove to the airport for our 6:40 flight to L.A.

When we arrived we took anUber to Dharma Damama’s apartment.

She has lived in the same apartment for 45 years near the border of Beverly Hills where she was born and raised.

When we arrived at around 9:00 she had set the tabLe with a bowl with a slice of cantaloupe, a small pile of raspberries, some fresh almonds, and a scoop of yogurt.  Beside it was a BLT Sandwich made with a vegetarian bacon, Kumato slices, lettuce, on a sourdough bread.  We ate heartily.

We talked and talked and she showed us all the lovely art and poetry created by Dharma Damama Singh over the 40+ years of their marriage.

Luke arrived at around 1:30 and she made him a BLT sandwich also while we walked around the block.

We left around 3:00 and drove to our BNB house in the Silver Lake section.  This was where luke lived.  We collapsed for a nap and he walked to his old work location, Moon Juice on Sunset Blvd.

We wakened at around 6:00 and drove to Moon Juice.  He guided us to Pho Restaurant, next door to Moon Juice.  It was a small shotgun restaurant with seats and tables on one side and the kitchen on the other side.  There were only two categories of food, Pho noodle soup and Bun noodle bowls.

There were also a large list of appetizers.  We ordered a crepe appetizer, which came with rice papers a Vietnamese crepe (an omelet stuffed with mung bean sprouts) and a plate of basil, mint, and a small owl of a rich peanut  sauce.

We soaked the rice wrappers to soften them and then stuffed them with crepe and herbs and rolled it into a tube and dipped it into the sweet peanut sauce.

Luke and Suzette ordered bun with fried fish and I ordered bun with fried egg rolls and spiced ground beef.

We all liked our dishes.  I could not eat all of mine and boxed it.

We then drove to a Trader Joe’s and bought a bottle of Platinum Pinot Noir for $14.99 and a bottle of Charles Shaw organic Pinot Noir for $3.99, a loaf of dark flatbread, eggs, milk, a wedge of Port Salut and a roll of goat chèvre., a plastic box Mission figs, ands box of cereal.

We then filled up and drove back to the house on the side of a hill.

It was great seeing my cousin and her sharing with us all her memories.

She made us a reservation at the Weisman Museum for 2:00 tomorrow.

We plan to go to IKEA and then the Weisman and finally the Hammer Museum and dinner.

Already the vacation is really fun.  I loved seeing my cousin.  We were born within a week of each other, so we share lots of similar experiences.

Bon Appetit
