August 4, 2025 Lunch - Costco Hot Dog. Dinner - High Desert Shell Club Annual Dinner
It was a busy day. I ate granola with blueberries and milk for breakfast as I worked on my pleading and watched the market take off into the stratosphere with the Dow up over 500 points and the NASDAQ up over 400. As my feels about a tariff driven recession seemed to evaporate. By the close my portfolio was up over 1.9%, a huge day thanks to an over $5.00 move in NVDA.
At 11:30 I drove to Costco to pick up a prescription and bought a Chocolate Tuxedo Cake for dinner and eat lunch. I ate my usual hot dog with a Coke. There were chopped onions and the cold Coke was a relief from the over 95 degree temp.
People who do lunch together form a bond of community
I worked on my pleading until 4:45 when Suzette reminded me it was time to go to dinner. Tom and Donnie live in north Rio Rancho, so we did not arrive until 6:00.
We talked and looked at shells and nibbled nuts. I showed the miniature Zoila Albanysis that Tom thought was a male and the Perlae Perlae I bought in Florida two years ago.
Then dinner was served. Tom grilled filets, Donnie made a salad with pecans and dried cranberries and sautéed mushrooms and onions to garnish the steaks. Mike made a deep baking dish of potatoes au gratin. There was also wedges of a lovely round brown bread and butter.
I took a bottle of 2017 Calstar Opperlander Pinot Noir and Tom had bought a bottle of Cotillion Cabernet Sauvignon.
It was a great meal with lots of discussion of individual maladies, which seem to dominate us older folk.
Finally, Suzette served slices of Costco Tuxedo cake that is two layers of cake with a chocolate mousse filling and chocolate icing on top.
We went home around 10:00 after a lovely meal and conversation focused on on shells and shell collecting.
Bon Appetit
