August 10, 2025 Breakfast - Crab Scrambled Eggs on Toast. Lunch - Wendy’s Original Frosty with Dr. Pepper. Dinner - Seneca Harbor Station Restaurant
We woke up and Suzette made us breakfast by adding the remaining 1/2 lb. of crab to four whisked eggs . I toasted a slice of bread and made an open face sandwich by putting the scrambled eggs on the toast.
Then Suzette and I swam a bit and then dressed and left at 10:00 for Watkins Glen.
It was an over four hour drive up the Susquehanna River much of the way.
It was beautiful scenery, a huge river rolling through wooded hills.
About halfway was Williamsport where we stopped at a Wendy’s. Suzette ordered a small Frostie soft ice cream and mixed it with a large Dr. Pepper to create a sort of root beer flout. We drank as we drove on to Watkins Glen.
We arrived around 3:00 in Watkins Glen and drove immediately to Hillick and Hobbs Winery that is located on a steep hillside on the east shore of Lake Seneca. We drank two flights of tastings. The first was a vertical of their Seneca Lake 2021, 2022, and 2023 Riesling plus a Sonoma Pinot Noir Rose and another Pinot Noir from California For $22.00. The best was the 2022 Riesling. It was 4:00 and other wineries were closing so we decided totry the reserve tasting if we could substitute the 2022 Riesling for the 2023 with the Deep Ravine reserve and the North Terrace reserve for $18.00.
The reserve wines were fermented on the lies and then in neutral chardonnay French barrels, which made the flavor musty . We decided we liked the 2022 Riesling best because it had a nice balance of noticeable acidity, sweetness, and chalkiness. We bought a bottle of the 2022 Riesling for $35.00.
It was 4:45 when we left the winery and drove to the harbor in Watkins Glen to the Seneca Harbor Station Restaurant in Watkins Glen.
We ordered one pound of mussels for $24.00 and the fish special, a grilled Swordfish steak sauced with a red bell pepper and tomato sauce with a cup of coke slaw for $34.00 and a bottle of French Nicolas Rose for $40.00. Not much food for $114.00 with tip. Especially when we were buying mussels for $3.00 for 2.2 lb. in Pontavedra.
After dinner we walked out on the pier and reserved places for tomorrow’s 3:30 sailing of the Love Boat, a beautiful 50 or 60 foot schooner.
We then drove up the wes5 side of Lake Seneca to Plum Piint Lodge, that is very nice.
We watched four episodes of Masterpiece Theatre and went to the fire pit for 1/2 hour and went to bed at 11:00.
Bon Appetit
