June 18, 2023 Father’s Day Brunch - Buckwheat, Blue Corn, and Strawberry Pancakes with bacon Lunch - Sandwiches and La Ventana Dinner - McDonald’s at Acoma Truck Stop.

Today was one of exceptional experiences.

It started calmly enough with morning news show and then a brunch of Buckwheat, Blue Corn, and Strawberry Pancakes with bacon.  

I made charcuterie sandwiches with Jarlsberg cheese slices and grapes with Vara Tempranillo wine and a couple of beers.

At 11:00 we drove the camper West to Acoma Pueblo Cultural Center where Suzette bought beaded earrings in the shape of ears of corn.

Suzette then wanted to drive further west to El Malpais National Monument which I had never seen.  It lies in a large basin south of Grants that experienced successive lava flows over the last 10,000 years.

We drove south to the overlook (above) and then further south on Hwy. 117 to La Ventana Arch, the second largest arch in New Mexico that was very impressive.  Here are some photos.  

We ate a late lunch at 3:30 and at 4:00 were unable to start the camper.  We called AAA, but they did not send a tow truck and at 7:00 we hitched a ride with a lovely family returning to Albuquerque from Mesa Arizona with six kids and a mother-in-law who gave us a ride to our house where we arrived at 10:30

We all stopped at McDonald’s at the Acoma truck stop, which was quite a scene sitting amongst the kids and Stan and his wife and their grand-mother eating fish filet sandwiches while they ate quarter pounders and happy meals and chicken sandwiches.

I really enjoyed being with a big family for a change and gladly paid for dinner for our saviors.

Tomorrow we will rise early to deal with the camper that we left at La Ventana.
