May 9, 2021 Traveling to Indianapolis. Brunch with Jeff and Cathy. lunch - a sandwich on the road. Dinner - popcorn, baby Gouda with cumin seeds, baguette, and red wine
We got up and packed and then I watched several Sunday morning news show and about 1/2 of Fareed Zacharia when I was called to the table for breakfast.
Cathy was making blueberry pancakes with a very interesting blend of buckwheat and regular pancake mix. There was also a rasher of crisp fried bacon on the table, fresh squeezed orange juice, and a fruit salad of cantaloupe, pineapple, and berries.
At 11:00 Jeff and Cathy drove us and our suitcases to Firestone to pick up the van that the mechanic replaced the fourth belt in.
It was pouring rain all morning as we drove from Columbus to Indianapolis. Only when we arrived in Indianapolis at 4:30 did the rain abate. It was fun eating a salami sandwich with potato chips and a beer inside the van in the rain for lunch at a rest stop on the road to Indianapolis. The feeling of self-containment is very satisfying.
When we arrived in Indianapolis we drove to the big Whole Foods downtown and bought milk, water, Wasa Multigrain knaecke brod, an onion, a head of garlic, a bottle of 2015 LAN Rioja Reserva with a bottle opener, .71 lb. of hamburger meat, and a French baguette.
We then filled the van with gas and drove the 42 miles in the direction of St. Louis to a camp ground space at Lieber State Park.
This was our first night outdoors in the van and we as soon as we started preparing hamburgers, asparagus, onions, garlic and mushrooms we discovered that the propane tank was empty.
We were not deterred. Suzette popped popcorn in the small microwave oven for a hot dish and I ate slices of the New York baby Gouda with cumin seeds on French bread that tasted just like Leyden.
I blogged and Suzette studied a manual until 9:30 when Suzette went to sleep. After dinner I served us glasses of the Zacapa XO rum Marty gave us and we each ate a Ferraro Rocher chocolate for dessert. The zacapa is amazingly rich I am falling to sleep just after finishing it.
It is fun camping in the van. I think we will really enjoy it when we get it fitted out to our liking and everything working properly and fixed.
It runs well on the road and tonight ,when we hooked it up to electricity, everything seemed to work.
Tomorrow we drive to St. Louis to see cousin Audrey.
Bon Appetit
