April 8, 2024 the Total Eclipse. Lunch - Turkey and cheese on Croissant at YMCA Dinner - Selda, Dallas
I ate a bowl granola with a diced date and some blueberries milk, and yogurt and a scrambled egg and baked beans for breakfast.
Then at 12:39 we drove to The YMCA on Northaven, which is a sports complex with a beautiful outdoor pool. We sat in and area beside the pool that included a covered area. Today everyone was sitting in a sunny place because starting at 12:40 the solar eclipse started. We wore our Solar glasses over our sun glasses to protect our eyes. Suzette lay in a lounge chair and I sat in a chair. Billy played pickle ball some and Willy went to the weight room. Elaine, Rachel, James, Mariam and Ben walked over and joined us. Billy met us when we arrived and got us admitted as his guest.
There were not many people other than the few adult swim club members and we were served lunch of a croissant sandwich with a slice of Turkey and a slice of cheese plus potato chips and Mayo and a Moon Pie for dessert. It had the feel of a very special day at summer camp.
I was very appreciative of the hospitality and lack of people. I did not realize that the process took two hours from start to finish. The period of totality lasted three or four minutes and although there were some clouds, the ring of fire that the sun cast around the moon was breath taking during totality.
We left around 2:00 and went back to Billy and Elaine’s and rested until dinner.
We drove to Selda at 5:45. It is a wonderful Turkish restaurant north of LBJ. There were 9 adults, Jerry, Mariam, Billy, Elaine, Willy, James, and Rachel and Suzette and me. Everyone ordered appetizers and entrees and we ordered a pitcher of Sangria for the table. We ended up with 6 boxes of food to take home.
When we returned home we watched the Gershwin awards honoring Elton John and Bernie Taupin and the news and then went to sleep.
Bon Appetit
