February 15, 2024 Brunch - La Grignote Dinner - Ana’s Deli & Grocery
Today we slept in until 9:00 when we walked to La Grignote for brunch.
We were seated immediately this time and a waitress took our order. Suzette ordered a cafe au Lait and I ordered orange juice and a Chocolate and almond croissant. We also ordered our entrees. Suzette ordered the quiche of the day which was artichoke. I ordered ratatouille. La Grignote is one of the most highly rated restaurants in Key West. The quiche was wonderful, creamy. The ratatouille was a little . It was a scoop of ratatouille placed in a hollowed out puff pastry, en croute, served with a dab of sour cream. I liked the concept and the en croute presentation but the flavor of the ratatouille was weak.
After breakfast we walked back to the hotel room and rested and showered and dressed and packed our suitcase and dropped it at the desk at 12:00 and sat in the Tranquility pool area until 2:00 when we walked to the end of South street and asked a lady behind us in line to take a picture of us.
We then walked two long blocks to the bus stop for the Duval Loop and road to the Truman Annex Market. There were lots of local vendors of crafts and food, but we were not hungry and walked back to the Duval Loop Bus stop to take the bus to Louie’s Backyard at the end of Vernon south of Beach. We drank Negra Modelos on the patio of the bar and watched the sunset.
After the sun set at 6:15 we walked the six blocks back toward the Southernmost Resort where we had left our suitcase. We had intended to stop for a light dinner of a lobster roll at the Lobster Shack but when we arrived we discovered that it had closed at 4:00. We had just passed Ana’s Deli and grocery, so I suggested we back track 1/2 block.
When we entered Ana’s I immediately saw what we would eat for dinner! An Authentic Cuban made with pork, ham, cheese, pickles, and Mayo on toasted Cuban bread. I grabbed a guava juice and zsuzette grabbed a bag of potato chips and a glass of ice to which see added Donil red Vermouth and orange slices.
It was a wonderful dinner eaten at one of the tables outside the deli.
We then walked back the two blocks to the Resort to re-claim our suitcase and call for a taxi.
We taxied to Key West airport and flew back to Tampa were we were assisted to find our car and drove back to Don and Bev’s by 10:20.
We had a great trip and were helped by assistance by wheel chairs at both airports.
Great food, lovely cool sea breezes, and pleasant scenery.
Bon Appetit
