March 3, 2018 Breakfast – Duck and egg tacos. Dinner – T. J. Rockwell’s American Grill and Tavern

March 3, 2018 Breakfast – Duck and egg tacos. Dinner – T. J. Rockwell’s American Grill and Tavern

We got up at 7:00 and I sliced a potato, a clove of garlic, about 2 oz. of onion, and the duck breast from dinner two nights ago.

Suzette then sautéed the ingredients in olive oil and the duck fat from the breast and then added two whisked eggs.  She also heated four corn tortillas in the microwave and we ladled the taco mix over the tortillas for a wonderful breakfast.

                                             Suzette in Rebecca’s apartment

We then left for Penn Station.  When we arrived we discovered that the electricity was down south of Trenton and no trains were going south.  Suzette called Enterprise Rental Car and made a reservation for a car with an 11:30 pick up.  We then waited until our 10:52 train was cancelled at 10:30 and then took a taxi to Enterprise on 24th St.

We went next door to a deli with a grill that made hot sandwiches.  Suzette selected a ham and cheese filled pita and I ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese and a Suzette got a hot coffee and milk. We returned to Enterprise and we left in our Santa Fe at 11:30.  We drove through the Lincoln Tunnel out of New York and drove down the NJ Turnpike.  We turned southwest at I-287 south of Perth Amboy.

A little after 2:30 we arrived in Elizabethtown.  Jean was at the house.  We then drove with Jean to The Masonic Home to meet Bill and Don at Mrs. Lindemuth’s new 1 bedroom apartment.  It was spacious and lovely with a small kitchen/dining area and a sitting room/bedroom.

It was larger than either Rebecca or Willy’s apartment.

We all left for Don’s where we drank a Beringer 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon that was very fruity.  We decided to go to T. J. Rockwell’s American Grill and Tavern for dinner.  When we arrived at 7:00 the restaurant it was full with a waiting line.  Bev, Don, and I sat at the bar and ordered a beer.  When we finished our beers, I checked on our reservation and were shown to a table in a downstairs dining room.

We are all on diets.  Don, Bev, and I ordered salad.  Suzette on mom ordered a bowl of soup. The best dish was Suzette’s French Onion Soup baked in a crock with cheese on a crouton.  I ordered a Cesar Salad with a crab cake.  The crab cakes in eastern PA are good and this was no exception, mostly crab.  I had two different dishes, a crab cake with tartare sauce and a Cesar salad.  I took the check that was less expensive than my lunch yesterday at the Met.  Such a difference between high end dining in NYC and down home cooking in rural PA.

We then took Mrs. Lindemuth back to her apartment at the Masonic Home and then drove to Don’s where we drank glasses of the bottle of Jepson “Old Stock” aged brandy made in Ukiah, Ca with mainly French  Colombard grapes.  The brandy had a lovely floral taste.

We left at 10:00.

After a wonderful glass of American brandy.

Bon Appetit
