November 22, 2025,  Breakfast at Hotel. Lunch - Duck Noodles. Dinner - Snack buffet in hotel

Today was a 10,000 step trek along the Philosophers’ Path to two Buddhist temples and one really old Shinto temple and another interesting lunch.

We ate breakfast at 8:00, a fried egg and breads for me with two sausages. There was something resembling a pain au chocolate that was tasty, but the best was a multigrain roll that was delicious with butter and orange

At 9:00 we ordered a cab to drive us to Ginkakuji temple . We has to walk the last 1/4 mile uphill but it was worth it the gardens were beautiful k especially in Fall colors. After walking the garden we went back down the hill to the beginning of the Philosophers’ Path and shared a  cream puff walked

We then walked along it to Honinin Temple, another Buddhist temple perched on the hillside above the Philosophers’ Path, another gem dating from the 1190’s with beautiful Fall colors.

We the walked toward a third Buddhist temple but aborted because it was at the top of a Hill. Instead we went down to a major street to a Shinto temple with iconography dominated by rabbits that was one of the four original temples.

After the third temple we were getting tired so we taxied to a fancy restaurant named tar but it was fully booked for lunch.

As we studied  the map I noticed a restaurant named Duck Noodles and said, “ Let’s go there. So we walked through the geisha area where many girls were dressed as geishas. When we arrived at the alley where Duck Noodles was located we stood behind a well dressed young couple from Massachusetts. The husband was a dentist and the wife was a doctor and pregnant.

They told us that we had found one of the hottest restaurants in Kyoto. There was a long line and only ten seats so we waited over an hour. They took our order in line. I ordered ramen with duck. Suzette ordered a pile of soba noodles with a miso soup to dip the noodles into with citrus. Both noodles were handmade and both dishes had an egg. The duck was tender and delicious. The chef said these were ducks brought from France and are considered the best ducks in Japan and the citrus flavor was a French influence.

We had expended too much energy so we taxied back to the hotel.

Later we attended the cocktail party from 6:00 to 8:30. We talked to Kitty and Robin and ate several of the snacks offered in the buffet.

At 8:30 we went back to the room and packed set the alarm for 6:00.

Bon Appetit
