April 12, 2025 Lunch - Vinas de Flor Winery
We got to the dining room at 8:00. Today the waitress offered us four egg options, one of which was an omelet.
Suzette and I both chose an omelet. We asked what ingredients were available and the waitress said, “We have ham, cheese, avocado, mushrooms, whatever you wish.”
We said, “We will take all of those items”.
The omelet turned out to be one of the best I have ever eaten because, not only did contain lots of those ingredients, but was one of the thinnest layer of egg and was cooked upon the French manner of wet inside which allowed all the ingredients to blend.
I also ate a sticky bun and two brownies that were really good with a cup of tea and a mixture of fresh pink grapefruit and orange juice.
Breakfast was the best meal of the day by far.
There was also really fresh yogurt that tasted like goat milk
Piatelli’s Aura Restaurant is ranked No. 1 in Cafayute.
After breakfast we drove up the hill to the two wineries above Piatelli, El Molina and San Pedro De Yacochuya.
Both are highly rated. We bought an award winning bottle of Malbec and a Torrontes/Sauvignon Blanc blend at El Molina and a small bottle of grappa at San Pedro. Both were beautiful properties.

We then drove to town and walked the art and crafts booths.
Billy bought a glass holder and Suzette and I drank a beer.
The most interesting booth for me was a jeweler and rock collector who had beautiful small Madagascar Ammonites, some of which were partially opalized.
We then drove to Vinas de Flor Winery at 2:00 for lunch.
It is another beautifully sited winery. Wevp sat on a terrace with a view of e Andes, but it was windy and Suzette and I shared a manta.
Elaine and I ordered trout, which turned out to be a sautéed salmon steak with capers and Duchess potatoes for $38.00, Billy ordered tenderloin with a Malbec reduction sauce and Suzette ordered a Butternut Squash Risott. The food was good but not great. We tasted . several wines that were not great and ordered a bottle of Rose of Malbec that was not great also. The dessert were the best part of the meal. Billy ordered a flan and I ordered a Dulce con Leche which was a thin crepe filled with cream of Leche sauce and garnished with crystallized orange peel and marmalade.

We the returned to Piatelli for a 4:00 wine tasting with chocolates.
We tasted Block 21 Malbec, a better Malbec and a late Harvest Torrontes that was really nice.
The tasting was started with a taste of a sparkling wine of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that was crystal clear without even a blush of Pinot Noir.
Suzette, Billy, and Elaine went to the spa hot tub at 5:00 and I napped until 6:20.
Billy had the attendant build a fire in their fireplace on their roof terrace and we took the grappa over and sat and talked sipped grappa.
Tomorrow is the trip to Quilmes with a guide that should be interesting hand lunch at the Casa de Empanadas, which are supposed to be the best in Argentina.
Bon Appetit
