November 6, 2024 Lunch - Pho Ava. Dinner with Linda and T.R.

November 6, 2024 Lunch - Pho Ava.   Dinner with Linda and T.R.

I woke up at 7:30 and drank a cup of hot chocolate flavored with rum and a chocolate croissant.

We planned to meet Linda and T.R. at the cocktail party at The Santa Fe Auction at 5:00,p to 7:00. They invited us to spend the night in their casita and then drive to Pagosa, Colorado for their hot springs festival.

But our plans got disrupted by a huge Winter snow storm that also caused us to cancel our planned trip to Pagosa Springs in Colorado on Thursday through Saturday. The storm was so big that it closed I-25 at Raton Pass, so we could not have driven on the smaller road through Abiquiu on a more mountainous road to Colorado.

We packed a grip and left home at 10:15 to beat the storm that was forecast to start snowing in Santa Fe at 11:00. At 11:30 as we drove up Cerrillos Road to Pho Ava to eat lunch it started snowing heavily but it was still 37 degrees and the snow was not sticking. Pho Ava is in the same space that used to be LAN’s. It was crowded and we had to wait for a table. Apparently snow excites one’s appetite for pho. We ordered fried egg rolls and a bowl each of pho. Suzette ordered rare steak and brisket. I ordered rare beef and beef meatballs and we ordered hot tea, the tea was a lovely light loose jasmine tea. The egg rolls were a little greasy, but we were hungry and dipped them in the accompanying fish sauce and gobbled them down.

Soon the metal bowls of pho came with a side plate filled with the usual cilantro, oriental basil, lime wedges, mung bean sprouts and slices of jalapeño peppers.

We added hoisin and bean sprouts and herbs to the bowls of rice noodles in pho broth and ate heartedly.

After lunch I began feeling an upset stomach and went to the bathroom.

When we left Pho Ava at around 2:00 it was snowing heavily so we did not drive to Stephen’s but instead drove to the Santa Fe Auction house and inspected all the Art being offered. There were not a lot of amazing pieces that excited me except for a Naumer landscape.

At 3:00 a thick layer of snow had accumulated on the Mini so we wiped it off the rear view mirrors and crawled up Barcelona to Old Pecos Trail to Linda and T.R.’s house.we put our grip in the casita and joined them for a drinks in front of the fireplace in their living room.

We talked until 7:30 and watched some of the turnover of government to Trump including part of Kamala’s concession speech. We are sad and shocked that we will be forced to endure another four years of Trump, but we assured ourselves that we can enjoy our old age in comfort.

In fact, today was a monster day in the market with the Dow rising 1508 points and the NASDAQ rising 544 points. My portfolio had a great day rising 2%.

Linda is a wonderful hostess. She had set a tray of Hors  d’Oeuvers  on the. Living room table and poured Suzette a vermouth and me a mineral water.

We enjoy their company immensely.

Linda claimed to be cleaning out the freezer for ingredients for dinner but it was far better than freezer stuff. She served a fresh salad with a blue cheese dressing, spaghetti with a light tomato sauce and a chicken breast baked with herbs, Chicken Lazone.  Linda opened a bottle of Beaujolais Village red and we ate a delicious meal.

Itwas 10:00 when we finished dinner and we shared with them some of the photos from our trips to Spain in the last two years.

Linda shoveled the path to the casita and we went to bed in the lovely casita.

Linda and T.R. were Moroccan traders for many years and have many items from their years of traveling in Morocco including many architectural elements built into their house and the casita.

Bon Appetit
