Dinner Grilled lamb chops with Sautéed potatoes, onions, garlic green bell
pepper and Japanese sweet peppers and steamed asparagus
Yesterday I went
to Costco and bought a package of nine fresh Australian lamb chops ($6.99/lb.).
The day
before I had gone to Sprouts and bought asparagus ($1.98/lb.) and 5 lbs. of russet
potatoes for $1.99/lb.)
We also had
one patty pan squash left from those we bought at the Farmer’s Market on
Saturday, as well as, a bag of dried sweet Japanese peppers ($1.00/bag).
So I sliced
four russet potatoes and the patty pan squash and 2.3 of an onion and two large
cloves of fresh garlic from our garden and we sautéed/sweated them covered with
a wok cover in some of the PPI sauce and oil used to cook the chicken thighs
several nights ago. The sauce and
flavored oil gave the potatoes extra flavor, sautéing the potatoes gave them crispness
and browned them and covering them allowed them to cook more quickly and
softened them, thus producing an interesting merger of soft with flavorful
with crisp and browned. When the
potatoes were ready to serve, I sprinkled a handful of chopped fresh mint on
the potatoes.
Suzette grilled
the lamb chops to rare and they were really delicious, evenly pink
throughout.
I decided to
open a bottle of 2009 Eguia Reserva, Spanish Rioja. This is one of my favorite bottles of Rioja,
because the reserve is smoother and more aged and the Costco price of $7.99 is
the best price for a really good Spanish Rioja in town.
The
combination of the sautéed/sweated potatoes with the fresh mint and the moist
delicious lamb chops was really terrific, which also tasted great with the Rioja
wine.
We loved
dinner. Suzette gave it one of her
greatest compliments, “No matter how badly things are going, at least we eat well.”
Actually
things are going very well both for Suzette and me and the kids, Willy and
Luke. I am very thankful for all the
wonderful things in my life.
Yesterday I also ordered a
case of Mohrhardt Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon from Wellington Vineyards today for approximately
$23.00/bottle delivered by cold storage freight from Glen Ellen, CA.
Wellington's Mohrhardt Ridge is as good as good as Stags
Leap District in Napa Valley, in my opinion, a very smooth wine with an elegant
finish.
Bon Appétit
