October 1, 2014 Cocktail party at Doug and Crystal’s House

Several days ago Crystal called and invited us over for a cocktail party with neighbors from the neighborhood tonight.

When we arrived around 6:15 we went to the kitchen where everyone was gathered and saw that Crystal had prepared a lovely assortment of appetizers, including a wonderful baked eggplant and fresh tomato dish garnished with grated Romano Pecorino cheese and Parmesan cheese, cantaloupe wrapped with prosciutto, a green chili in sour cream dip, a blue cheese and date ball garnished with nuts and served with seasoned crackers made by Crystal, roasted nuts, fresh tomato and cucumber garnished bruschetta, a fresh grilled peach bruschetta garnished with mizuna greens, cream cheese garnished with a fresh jalapeno and cranberry chutney and Belgian endive leaves stuffed with a nut flavored cream cheese.  Crystal's comment that we were going to be served finger food was hugely under rating the sophistication and quality of this spread.  I was especially impressed with her use of the fresh eggplants, cucumbers and tomatoes from their garden.

The selection of libations included everything one could ask for, including an ice filled punch bowl holding chilled bottles of Cupcake chardonnay and Miraval rosé from Provence.  There was also a pleasing cabernet sauvignon red wine, Freemark Abbey, from the Napa Valley

It was fun catching up on the goings on with neighbors.

Finally, toward the end of the evening, Doug opened a bottle of 2007 Casalino Brunello de Montalicino and we savored a really great wine.

A perfect evening of good food, good beverages and good company.

 Bon Appétit
