May 16, 2020 Brunch - Sausage Burritos Dinner – Cabbage, Beef Brisket, carrots, and Potato Stew

May 16, 2020  Brunch - Sausage Burritos  Dinner – Cabbage, Beef Brisket, carrots, and Potato Stew

We slept until 8:00.

At 9:00 Suzette made Sausage burritos garnished with sliced avocado that we ate outside in the garden.  After brunch we played bocce.

After the game Suzette fetched the brisket from the freezer in the garage and defrosted it in the microwave and fetched the large blue roasting pan from the basement, while I prepped carrots, onion,  cabbage, and potatoes for the stew.

After we put the stew in the oven I lay down to nap and Suzette made fabric masks.

I awakened around 11:30 and we drove to Crown Jewelry and picked up my repaired turquoise belt buckle and admired a Mexican 50 peso gold coin.

We then drove to Stone Canyon Leathers on 4th Street in Los Ranchos that specializes in belts. I bought a belt for my repaired buckle and left the set of silver rancher’s points we bought Willy for the owner to make a custom belt for Willy.

At 5:00 we watched the CNN Graduation production at which President Obama gave the commencement speech and ate the brisket stew with horseradish and Glasses of 2016 Chateau Roudier, Bordeaux red blend from Montagne-St. Emillon (Trader Joe’s $12.99 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon).

At 7:00, after the graduation special, we took a 2/3 mile walk.  As we walked along Los Alamos one of our neighbors was playing her bagpipe while two men watched from her driveway.  Here is a short video of her playing.

We rounded the block and as we reached Park Ave. we saw a graduation party across the street of a young man with friends, family, and passers-by.  It was thrilling to see our neighbors beginning to go back outside , although admittedly in rather small groups and celebrate special occasions.

As we passed the newly landscaped yard we saw a moving van parked outside and lots of boxes on the front walkway, a sure sign that our new neighbors were moving in.

Back home Suzette fetched the rhubarb/strawberry compote she made several days ago and heat it in the microwave and pour it over the last two scoops vanilla ice cream for a sensational and natural dessert.  I drank a cup of chai with my dessert and Suzette drank a cognac

We then watched Father Brown and Death in Paradise and an episode of The Crown, after which Suzette went to bed.  I stayed up to watch an episode of Modus, the Swedish mystery starring an American and Swedish cast with Kim Cantrell as President.

At midnight I started to blog.

It was a very productive day.

Bon Appetit
