August 9, 2018 Lunch – Bun Cha Gio Salad Dinner – Gruet Thirsty Thursday Food and Wine event

August 9, 2018 Lunch – Bun Cha Gio Salad  Dinner – Gruet Thirsty Thursday Food and Wine event

I did not get hungry until 9:30. I toasted a slice of banana nut bread and spread honey peach butter on it and drank a cup of tea with it.

Then at noon I chopped four leaves of romaine lettuce to the PPI Bun Cha Gio from yesterday’s lunch.  The added lettuce freshened the dish and mixed with the fish sauce left on the noodles nicely.

I ate a snack of salami and cheese at 4:30.  At 5:30 we drove to Gruet for the thirsty Thursday wine and food pairing.  Tonight there were four wines matched to four appetizers.  The wines included the newly released 2015 Blanc de Noir, the Extended Tirage sparkling rose, the Still rose, and the pinot noir.  The paired appetizers in the same order as the wines were a square of pear, walnut, feta, and caramelized onion tart; a toasted slice of French bread with sautéed mushrooms slices, green bean sprouts and small slices of avocado, a very interesting sushi roll with sticky rice wrapped around  a fresh raspberry And fresh dragon fruit wrapped around the sticky rice, the final appetizer was a a molasses soaked strawberry on a piece of dark rye bread topped with arugula.  The wine and food cost $20.00 with wine club members given an additional 20% discount, making the cost $18.00.

I also bought a case of rose wines, which are offered at a 20% discount in August, with wine club members getting an additional 25% case discount, for an aggregate discount of approximately 40%.

There was not a lot of food but each item was delicious.

Sam met us and we had a lively conversation about Oregon wine and real estate.

We went home a bit after 9:00.

When we arrived home we ate a bowl of Vichyssoise and some Clafoutis for a lovely light finish to our dinner.

Bon Appetit
