June 7, 2018 A very exciting day. Lunch – Mary and Tito’s. Dinner – Light Appetizers at Gruet’s Patio Opening Party

June 7, 2018 A very exciting day.  Lunch – Mary and Tito’s. Dinner – Light Appetizers at Gruet’s Patio Opening Party

The day started out with a catastrophe.  The hot water heated burst during the night and spewed water to a depth of 12 to 15 inches in the basement before the city arrived to turn off the water at the street.  Suzette called a water extraction company that arrived around 8:30 a.m. and I called the insurance company to report the claim and the plumber to request that they install a new hot water heater. At 8:30 I left for a mediation that lasted until 11:00.  When I returned home the water extractors were still extracting water.  I called Aaron and he agreed to pick up an enchilada plate at Mary and Tito’s on the way over.  I ordered my favorite dish from Mary and Tito’s, blue corn enchiladas with ground beef and double refried beans.  I ate when Aaron arrived and then we prepared and filed an answer in a case.  I am excited to be going back to court again representing Aaron.

When the water was finally pumped out of the basement, the extractors removed soaked stuff to the garage and finally moved the approximately 500 bottles of wine to an upstairs bedroom.  The plumber came and installed the new water heater and by 5:00 we had hot water again and a relatively dry basement filled with blowers and dehumidifiers.

Suzette arrived at 5:30 just as I was finishing my shower.  She showered and dressed and at 6:30 we drove to a Gruet for the grand opening of their new patio. There are lots of reasons to celebrate when you own a champagne winery.

There was a caterer serving appetizers by the new patio.  There were slices of fruit and cheese and grilled chicken skewers served with a lemon aioli dipping sauce, a lovely crisply toasted slice of baguette smeared with a mushroom spread and garnished with sliced marinated mushrooms, and small round Parmesan wafers made by sautéing shredded Parmesan cheese topped with ½ of a shrimp and a micro vegetable garnish.  After filling a small plate with appetizers we walked inside and checked in and received glasses of Blanc de Blanc champagne.

We sat and ate our appetizers in the large room next to the aging racks (see photo above) and then when Dan Stoddard saw us we went outside and talked to him and Joy for a while.  Dan is a very talkative amiable person. Much of the talking was him telling us how he decided to run for Magistrate Judge in Sandoval County and that he has garnered 62% of the Republican vote by having a superior media and door to door campaign.

We were given a “top off”second glass of Blanc de Blanc champagne and went back inside and found seats at the counter in the tasting room and talked until 8:15, when we excused ourselves. When we left the tasting room we were greeted by this fabulous sunset, which is also the view from the new patio.

When we arrived Suzette ate the last square of lemon cheesecake and I heated and ate my PPI lunch enchiladas and beans.

We watched the last 28 second of game four of the Stanley Cup, which the Washington Capitals won to clinch the Cup.

I brought the pot of black beans back into the house and Suzette helped me transfer them to the crock pot, so they would cook more slowly and we would be freed from watching the pot.

I am now thinking we should change the menu for Sunday to turkey mole and black beans and a green vegetable.

Bon Appetit
