April 30,
2015 Dinner at Last Thursday Book Club meeting
I had a
large late PPI lunch today of Kibbeh, black beans and corn, chard and squash
with salad.
At 5:00 I
went to Ranch Market to buy a few things including oranges, limes, an eggplant,
½ lb. of Chapala farmer’s cheese and more cans of refried black beans.
Tonight was
book club at Jack Farrell’s house in Placitas.
Jack and his wife laid a lovely table of snacks served on and in their
hand made ceramic platters and bowls, including a red bell pepper cheese spread
with potato chips, pigs in a blanket made from scratch with fresh crescent roll
or croissant dough, a plate of vegetables, including blanched asparagus,
broccoli and cauliflower, with an artichoke dipping sauce, nuts, Hershey bars
and fresh strawberries and grapes, a complete, healthy meal without the Hershey’s
bars.
The drink
selection was equally impressive, a chilled bottle of J pinot gris immediately attracted
my attention, but I then shifted to one of my old favorites, IFC Cream Soda. There were also bottles of Zinfandel,
Chardonnay, and Merlot, plus lemonade and water. I brought a bottle of Port to try.
We discussed
Philip Roth’s most recent book Nemesis, which is structured as a Greek
tragedy, with a 10 minutes break at 7:45 to watch the sun set over the Jemez Mountains.
At the end
of each meeting, we always have a dessert.
This evening Jack’s wife, made a banana cream pie, with fresh banana
slices, banana pudding and fresh whipped cream.
It was a
lovely evening of food, drink, and conversation.
Bon Appétit
