I met Nizar Kassam at Café Trang for lunch. I ordered number 44, Bun Cha Gio (Pork filled
fried Spring Rolls and grilled pork on boiled Vietnamese rice vermicelli accompanied
with small piles of bean sprouts, pickled carrot and daikon salad, chopped
fresh lettuce, chopped peanuts, fresh herbs and a small bowl of fish sauce
($8.25).
Nizar got his usual chicken soup with rice vermicelli.
We discussed our real estate investment in California, which
appears to have become successful because a companyr has approached us to buy the ground
lease we have for a telecommunications tower on the land that will pay off our
mortgage. I enjoyed our wonderfully satisfying meal of both food and business.
Suzette has a group of girlfriends that meet each month to
celebrate each person’s birthday at the restaurant of the birthday person's choice. Suzette invited me to join the group this
month to celebrate her birthday at Seasons, chosen because it is close to our home.
AWe arrived at 6:00 p.m. and were soon met by the group of girls, including Debbie, and Linda
and Diana, on the upstairs deck near an open clearstory windows that run the length along the western side of the deck. There was distant thunder and soon rain
poured down, but we stayed relatively dry because the wait staff quickly closed
the sliding windows next to our table.
Most of us ordered appetizers and drinks from the Happy Hour
Menu (most items are around $6.00 instead of around $10.00 on the regular dinner menu). Suzette and I shared a pitcher of
sangria. Suzette ordered three shrimp tacos
and I ordered my favorite, Fried Calamari on a bed of dark cooked salsa made
with tomatoes and peppers.
The red sangria was tart but interesting because it was
flavored with some cinnamon and fruit juices.
It rained for at least thirty minutes. At around 7:30 p.m., after the rain abated,
we all went on our separate ways.
Suzette and I went home to an early bedtime at around 9:00 p.m. Such is the excitement of growing older.
Here are the pictures of our dishes, including Caesar Salads,
a turkey wraps, and a lovely spinach and peach salad.
For dessert the waitress brought us a special Birthday moon pie sandwich made with slices of chocolate cake sprinkled with chocolate chips separated by a layer of Bavarian Cream with a candle.
Seasons is owned by the same brothers who own Zinc and Savoy and are Roger Roessler's nephews.
Its
menu is lighter and less seriously classical than Savoy and Zinc, but perfect for a Happy Hour get
together.
Bon Appétit
