On Wednesday
after I filed a motion in the Boyd case with the Court of Appeals, I went to
Sprouts to shop and went a little crazy.
I bought a fresh corvina (sea bass) filet ($8.99/lb.), three bratwursts
($2.88/lb.), a 1 lb. bag of sauerkraut ($2.49), 1 ½ lb. of Rainer cherries ($3.99/lb.), 1 ½ lb. of chocolate covered
almonds ($3.99/lb.), some vine ripe tomatoes ($.98 per lb.), a 1 lb. log of fresh
mozzarella ($6.99), an eggplant ($.99), 4 artichokes for $5.00, and some
bananas for Suzette for a total of just over $58.00.
After dinner at around 9:30 on Wednesday evening I boiled
the artichokes but forgot about them until 1:30 a.m. when I awoke from my sleep
remembering that I had left the fire under them. I ran to the kitchen and found that they were
still partially covered with water, so they had not burned. I put them in a colander to drain. In the morning I put them into a plastic bag
and put that in the fridge.
On Thursday I finished the Reply Brief in the Boyd
case a little after noon. To celebrate I
went to Azuma for lunch. I stopped at
Fano's Bakery Retail Outlet store on McLeod to buy a baguette of my new favorite French Bread. A double baguette costs $3.00, which is now the best
price in town.
At Azuma I ordered my usual, Chirachi Donburi: 12 slices
of fish and seafood, plus a shrimp, 2 wedges of omelet and 2 wedges of pickled daikon,
and a pile of shredded fresh daikon on a bed of sushi rice in a plastic
imitation lacquered box. I get the same
12 pieces of fish each time: 2 salmon, 2 red tuna, 2 super white, 2 octopus and
4 yellowtail ($14.99). As always, it was
fresh and delicious.
I worked until 6:00 when Suzette told me we needed
to go to the band shell in the Botanic Gardens to hear Max Gomez. At around 5:15 she had asked if I wanted to
go hear him and I said yes and if artichokes were okay and I had said yes. So she had packed a Mexican shopping basket
with two artichokes, a container of Green Goddess Dressing, a quartered avocado,
a sliced tomato, some of the Rainer cherries, and a chunk of the fresh Fano
baguette, plus a blanket, knife, spoons, napkins, and water. When we arrived at the Botanic Gardens and
entered the gardens, we saw the drink area and immediately bought 2 cups of Kim
Crawford Sauvignon Blanc ($8.00 each) and found an open bench near the sound
table in front of the stage and sat down by it
only occupant, George. I then
went over to the sound table and asked to borrow an extra chair and made a
table for our food items. Mimi Montgomery
came up and talked for a while and then I looked around and saw Brent Lesley
and talked to him for a while. We had
stopped to speak with Mary Lou Dobbs as we walked in and she came over to talk
for a few minutes. It was fun to see
everyone and to hear Max Gomez’ wonderful solo performance of his music and enjoy
our light dinner al fresco.
We went home when the music ended at 9:30
Bon Appétit
