February 2, 2020. Breakfast – Sautéed Mexican Squash and Smoked Pork cutlet with fried eggs. Dinner – Texas Chili Dinner for the Super Bowl.

Suzette pointed out to me that today’s date is a palindrome: 02022020.  More interestingly, she said that the next date that will be a palindrome will not occur for 900 years.  I did not ask her what the next one would be.

Instead we made breakfast, I sliced a Mexican Squash, a shallot, and four cloves of garlic and Suzette diced a smoked pork cutlet.  We then sautéed the ingredients in a medium skillet and in a smaller skillet, Suzette fried four eggs over easy.  I also toasted two pieces of French baguette and buttered them and drizzled honey on them to eat with my breakfast.

Bob’s Breakfast

The Eggs
Billy ate with us.  He made oatmeal and garnished it with fresh blueberries and banana slices.

Willy ate the last of the squash with a fried egg.

We packed up and left around 9:50.  We drove to Taos Retirement Village but when we arrived the estate sale had ended so Suzette drove us to the Pojoaque travel center where we stopped to go to the bathroom.  Suzette bought a bag of sea salt potato chips and bag of Little Debbie Chocolate covered donuts that we split as I drove us to Stephen’s consignment in Santa Fe.  We looked around and after I saw one piece that interested me.  Then Suzette showed me an early large Carol Hoy painting of a fruit bowl filled with fruit.  It was marked $895, but we asked Frank what his best price would be.  He said, “$565”.  I said to Suzette. “offer him $500.00,” which she did.  Frank said, “Give me $525.00.” and Suzette said, “Okay.”  Here is a photo of the picture.

I have not been able to buy a Carol Hoy for less $750.00, so I think Suzette bought it for a good price.

I then drove home, arriving at 2:45, which was exactly the time that Willy and Billy arrived.  I took a shower and dressed and took a walk with Billy. At 4:00 we arranged the TV room with six chairs for viewing the Super Bowl and Suzette and Willy made guacamole. Suzette poured salsa in a bowl, and mixed red Chile with sour cream to make a dip. Suzette had brought in the large pot of chili and Billy turned on the heat and scraped the coagulated fat off the top of the chili.

Dodi and Peter arrived at 4:15 with a 12 pack of Negra Modelo, a six pack of Sam Adams Boston Lager, and a four pack of Perrier, corn chips, and flour tortillas, everything we needed for a Super Bowl Party. Suzette served us bowls of chili in French Onion soup crocks.  Peter and I ate two bowls with a tortilla and innumerable corn chips dipped in guacamole, salsa, and red chili crema.  Suzette and I drank Mexican beers, Peter drank a Sam Adams and Dodi drank Perrier.

We watched the game until the last minute when it finally became apparent that Kansas City would secure a come from down 10 points to win a decisive 31 to 20 victory.

Suzette served the box of Neuhaus chocolates that Billy brought.
We said goodnight to Dodi and Peter at 8:00 and then watched the PBS series, “Sanditon”. Suzette went to bed at 9:00, but I stayed up and watched, “Vienna Blood” about the unlikely working friendship between a Viennese police detective and a young Jewish Doctor, who applies psychological analysis to solve murders.

I went to bed at 10:00 and blogged this blog installment.

Bon Appetit
