August 7, 2016. Brunch BLT Sandwiches. Dinner at Charlie and Susan’s house
Suzette made us BLT sandwiches with the heirloom tomatoes she bought at the Farmers’Market this morning. Then we processed the garlic we picked from our garden. I watched the Olympics and rested while Suzette went to Willy’s apartment to help him decorate and then went with him to Costco to purchase a new TV.
When she came home she rested for a few minutes and then we grabbed the PPI squash casserole and a bottle of Nessa Albariño and went to the Palmer's at 7:00. Susan made a new recipe of baked chicken with a pomegranate syrup that Penny Remby had given her.
Susan used lovely large chicken breasts from Whole Foods. She also roasted potatoes and blanched string beans and we helped her make a cucumber, onion, tomato and avocado salad with Suzette’ German sweet and sour dressing.
The squash casserole was just as lovely this evening as it had been Friday night, soft and custardy.
For dessert Susan served fresh watermelon that was so sweet it triggered a Deja's but flashback to my youth when my family would go to the watermelon stand after dinner to eat watermelon. I loved it.
This is the time of the year when the watermelons are at their sweetest.
Bon Appetit
