February 10, 2014 Dinner Party at Palmers Sautéed Rib Eye
Steak, Roasted potato wedges, steamed Broccoli and Asparagus, Béarnaise Sauce,
Salad and Red Velvet Cookies and Ice Cream
As often occurs when we eat dinner with the Palmers we end
up with two dinners as neither Susan nor I are particularly good at menu
control and both end up cooking overlapping parts of dinner.
Tonight was no exception.
I wanted both salad and asparagus and Susan agreed
to roast potatoes and ended up cooking broccoli also.
So we had three green vegetables. Aside from that dinner, was great. Susan
sautéed thick Choice rib eye steaks we had bought at Costco in butter and thyme
and garlic and steamed asparagus and broccoli while I made a béarnaise sauce
and made salad with Cesar salad dressing.
Susan also served cheeses and lax and cream cheese for
appetizers. We took a bottle of a silver medal winning Coteaux de Langedouc
($7.99 Trader Joe’s).
Susan made wonderful red velvet Butter Pecan cookies with a Duncan Hines boxed cake mix, pecans, butter. We ate them with Blue Bell
vanilla ice cream and Susan's freshly made chocolate sauce.
So it turned out to be such a food feast that I got only
four hours of sleep, although I thankfully was able to see the episode of
Downtown Abbey I had missed from 2:00 to 4:00 a.m.
Bon Appetit
