April 15, 2013 La Boca

I went with Josefo and Davida to Santa Fe for a trial in Magistrate Court at 3:00 p.m.  The trial was dismissed on a procedural technicality without being litigated, so we found ourselves free for the rest of the afternoon.  They were kind enough to drive me to Peyton Wright Gallery to see its new Modernist show.  Then we went to Owings Gallery and walked through.  Each gallery had a terrific Agnes Pelton transcendental piece.  What fun.
After looking at Owings great art and talking to Nat for a minute, we walked down the street to La Boca; arriving at 4:40.  Although happy hour (3:00 to 5:00) was almost over, they allowed us to order off the Happy Hour menu, which meant that all items were 50% off the regular menu price.
We went a little wild, ordering two salads of kale and romaine with fried garbanzos and roasted garlic cloves,

two pinchos de pollo (grilled chicken skewers) brushed with harissa, with an avocado and tomato salad and a small pile of pickled red onions,

a plate with a pile of deep fried eggplant strips served with a red pepper dipping sauce, and

a morcilla (blood sausage) a la plancha w/ roasted red peppers and green aioli $6 (it was a little over cooked and tough for my taste.  I preferred Cosmos').

The real hero of the meal was the olive oil.  It was light and flavorful.  We could not stop dipping bread in it and eating it.  I had two glasses of  Rioja red for $7.00 each.  We had a great time eating and talking to James Campbell Caruso.  Davida asked him about the olive oil and he said he had bought the last of T. R Lawrence’s Nomad olive oil from him.  The Chef sold us a liter bottle of the Nomad's olive oil.  The other interesting thing at la Boca was that Davida knew the artist, Braldt Bralds, whose super realistic vegetable painting prints adorned the walls.  She called him because she had met him and wanted to take his painting class and signed up for his class on the phone from the restaurant.

We were all happy and pleasantly stuffed.  Here is a photo of the happy eaters.

Bon Appétit
